The year I was born. we basically had no idea why cancers happened and now we understand the underlying force behind it with 100% clarity and the molecular forces behind it with many orders of magnitude more resolution. We were entirely in the dark, and now the room is lit.

Since I started routinely screening premenopausal women and lowering my threshold for screening men based on symptoms, I have caught a lot more iron deficiency cases that would have been missed with a simple CBC.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines. The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds. It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

"Health disparities research" is a field of study where researchers look at how things like race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status can influence health outcomes. Now any gov't website about this says "page not found". This is a dystopia that I did not imagine that we'd be living through.
