call or at the very least write your senator and congressman. Remind them how much money flows into their state or district. Talk about How many jobs your lab supports. Be specific about advances in therapeutics or your patients if you can. An “MD” still carries some weight use it.

How about going to a non-red state that earnestly respects scientists and your talent and your contributions to society? Or another country perhaps? I understand that change isn’t easy, but why do so many people stay in a place that doesn’t respect them?
