Even still, a walking transfer doesn't mean anyone is "losing access to jobs", quite the opposite even. Also the line goes all the way to Tacoma, not just south Seattle. The rest of the region is important too.

Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Likewise the plans should be for the region's benefit, not just Seattle's. Not to mention the Enterprise Initiative actively working to bring down costs.

The service alerts were prompt and staff were in stations with information about alternative routes and the shuttles. ST is a *regional* transit authority, not a *Seattle* transit authority - the redundancy comes from the local providers. If there're problems with rendundacy, take it up with them.

Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
I agree that we should not be content and continue to strive for better, but going out and being all doomeristic about "ST sucks and the trains suck and their plans suck" isn't helping anyone out either.

Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Annoying? Yes. But correct? Also yes. I thank you for your time.
210
Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
That's correct, because the Rainier Valley to Ballard wouldn't have a transfer to begin with.
110
Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
10 minutes would be a worst case scenario and the proposed transfer would use the same platform, I don't know how you could design it much better than that.

Additionally, in this post I'm referring to the south end of the region (Pierce Counth and Tacoma) not the south end of Seattle / Rainier Valley

Just... transfer trains? A 5-10 minute transfer delay isn't going to shut off employment opportunities to part of the city.
120
Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
ST can't magically make accidents not happen, the fact that they restarted service after a train/OCS exploded in 15 hours is a testament to their resilience. Every subarea is still getting/has gotten an ST3 project fast-tracked to the best of their ability given the new circumstances since 2016.
110
Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
What do you mean failing to provide it? Link is the second-highest ridership light rail in the country, has had among the best post-COVID recovery in the country, and still has the most ambitious expansion plan in the country. Now if people put undue expectations on ST, that's not their fault.

Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
The series of standing-room only town halls that TCC hosted would largely beg to differ. It's not ST's fault for political apathy. As for the south end, I would only have to imagine that those complaining about the spine split pale in comparison to those complaining about nothing being built.

Zack Shoemaker @blitzswitch217.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
They're only bleeding public support in the one neighborhood that is only getting *half* of their train line immediately for the sake of regional connectivity. The only intervention we need is to stop distracting the agency with weird recall initiatives.

A lot of Seattle transit advocates seem willing and eager to wallow in doomerism. Talk to folks in other cities facing direct service cuts or transit death spirals. We have work to do, but pretending we're worse off than we are helps no one.

Suprisingly, American still holds out on *not* doing them, but with everyone else starting them it's only a matter of time imo.

Alaska, Hawaiian (yes, they have their own) also have been doing them for a year or so, and more recently Frontier, Southwest, and JetBlue have started too!

This feeling is why I say every Transit Opening Day is the best one. For one glorious day, our system is perfect and we have it all. We'll be back to advocating for more trains and more buses, more places, more often on Sunday. But tomorrow? Tomorrow we party.

This is indefensible crap from a single Senator who has done some good work on transit in the past so I am genuinely confused here. The Mosquito Fleet Act is a GOOD THING and the state Senate should have overruled him but won’t because he’s too powerful.

Lynnwood light rail is super popular — but there’s a problem
Parking can run out at Lynnwood by 8:30 a.m., leaving some would-be riders to ditch light rail for yet another I-5 drive. Other stations' garages are filling, too.
