Planning to work on ways to blend my STEM biomedical curriculum with cooking and nutrition. There’s a lot of confusing mis/disinformation out there about healthy eating, and I’m looking for resources that are credible, kid-friendly, and interesting. Suggestions? #edusky

I’m thinking a lot about recent decisions by several European countries to remove screens from classrooms, and thinking about how I can reduce screen use with my students. Anyone thinking along those lines and want to share things they will be changing?

Alas, if only the USMNT could be more like the USWNT.

Hmmm.. I have all of this latent social media energy . . . It would be a shame to waste it, eh?

Looking for educators who used to network with others online, but have had to change those habits in the past 5-10 years. Helping with a study - anyone interested? Offering a $50 gift card for participants. Here's more info - sites.google.com/uic.edu/teac...

But I want to avoid two things: - We have to avoid throwing out the good changes. So we really need an honest accounting of what those are. - We have to empower educaiton professionals to choose what they would like to use, not take away autonomy because of aggressive tech mandates.

So there's a backlash brewing against #Edtech, and this is a good thing. Any discussion that leads to a more open and nuanced understanding of these powerful tools is a good thing, IMO. I think we went too far too fast, and we tossed out a lot of babies (and more than a little bathwater).

Enjoying a peaceful Spring Break, and headed to my hometown in Ohio - which now, apparently, is in the heart of "Ohio wine country," which is actually a thing. Who knew? ohio.org/home/invitin...

Ohio Wine Country
The breezes off Lake Erie and the rich soil left behind by the glaciers that carved out the Great Lakes makes Ohio's Wine Country prime for grape growing.

Back to textbooks: Denmark rolls back digital learning. Denmark was quick to adopt digital technologies in the classroom, but wise enough to examine the impact on students, which led to a roll back in specific areas. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKoC...

“Cognitive psychology has shown that students grow intellectually through doing the work of drafting, revising, failing, trying again, grappling with confusion and revising weak arguments. This is the work of learning how to learn.” #AI #HigherEd #EduSky 1/2 theconversation.com/the-greatest...

The greatest risk of AI in higher education isn’t cheating – it’s the erosion of learning itself
Automating knowledge production and teaching weakens the ecosystem of students and scholars that sustains universities, raising existential questions about their mission.

This is a truth that school librarians know well! Remember your school librarian is there to help collaborate, support your curriculum, and extend your literacy instruction in explicit and meaningful ways like those mentioned in the @edutopia.org article below ⬇️ #EduSky #TLSky #Skybrarian

Thinking about #scienceofliteracy #sol - it's important to teach foundational skills, but that's definitely not enough to help kids become good comprehenders. Check out a recent article by Duke, Ward, and Pearson in The Reading Teacher - ila.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... #literacy

Looking to get back in the game, and participating in some research this summer about #educators on social media. Just asking - anyplace where I can find teachers willing to collaborate on educational thoughts on social media? What do you recommend? #edusky

I’m in the late stages of coursework for a Ph.D. In curriculum and instruction with a focus on literacy and technology. I’m thinking about gaming communities where kids (anyone under 18, I guess) are learning in ways that are different than classroom-based. I’m leaning toward Minecraft. . .

I’m an aspiring ed researcher and tech and literacy guy looking for conferences to attend for networking and professional growth. I’m familiar with ISTE, the Connected Learning conference, AERA, NCTE, and the LRA conference. Anyone have other suggestions - conferences I should look at?

It looks like there’s suddenly a lot more people here. I’ve been drifting away from Twitter/Ex for a while, as have many others, looking for a place to talk about education and tech research without being drawn into toxic political battles. I’m leaning toward this place. Any thoughts?
