I had intended to go in an entirely different direction (dub/reggae), but on my trip to the stacks, this record by The Kills demanded a spin. The Kills' No Wow is a ripper.

I went to Amazon's about you page eagerly afraid I'd find some bizarrely specific fact I didn't want the computers to know about me, instead, it told me I like bicycles, vinyl, and hydration (and recovery), and that I likely favor German experimental electronic music.

What a great fuckin' album. I expected nothing of Primary Colours, after I heard the Horrors debut EP, a competent, if soulless take on the horror punk of the Cramps. Then, this happened -- A fully realized band, who knows all the post-punk, shoegaze, and krautrock greats, and owns them

One of my few options for vinyl shopping here in rural VT is the Quechee Antique Mall. There are a handful of vendors where I regularly flip through their wares, even if most of the good shit is overpriced and there is entirely too much Rod Stewart. Fuck Rod Stewart. Vintage U2 is cool

I've found that the cats, Dusty and Ziggy, get along much better when they can unite against a common enemy, like a blue feather ball on a string and they can take turns at attempted murder of the blue feather ball. Otherwise, there is still a level of distrust between the two of them

In The Rock 10/5/1993: Redd Kross release their fifth record, “Phaseshifter”, a criminally ignored LP, packed with some of the best super power pop of the 90s. It drew comparisons to Cheap Trick and H.R. Puffinstuff. It not only holds up after 30 years, it sounds even better. #ReddKross

If your ideal grunge is Mark Lanegan and Neil Young, then The Heartless Bastards' 2009 release, The Mountain, and its ragged, psychedelic mountain music is so fucking grunge.

Saturday night is now grunge trivia night and I'm alright with that. The 2013 expanded edition of Above by grunge supergroup, Mad Season, includes three tracks recorded with Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees as lead singer, and were intended for the scrapped second Mad Season album minus Layne Staley

Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana appeared on Mark Lanegan's cover of Where Did you Sleep Last Night by Leadbelly in 1990, three years before Nirvana's Unplugged performance would popularize their own version. Leadbelly does a killer grunge song.

Portland, Oregon's Dead Moon never really fit in with grunge, garage rock, psych rock, or any other underground movement. Their recordings were distinctively DIY lo-fi, but they had the presence of a proper power trio. Dead Moon were a great fucking band.
