When I was in high school 20+ years ago, it was required reading. So was catch-22, the color purple, 1984, animal farm, etc. Back then, stopping a dystopian nightmare was something schools tried to impress on us. Then 77M people voted to make it one. We need to invest in education not bombs.

I don't know how to get over the fact that companies immediately were like "eh, fuck our customers" as soon as US food safety standards were legally loosened. The infrastructure was already there. There had to be a conscious decision and action to fuck things up as badly as they did.
