Yeah alcohol and all sunlight are a bad combination At high altitudes like Colorado here you can be sitting out on a patio and there’s so much sun and your beer can get skunky while you sit there

Turned some of the buckets of chanterelles that I literally (like actually literally) cannot go into the forest without stepping on here into a risotto, with half a square of robiola cheese blended in, and leftover pintxos party salsa verde. And omg, I wish I could share this with all y’all
A truly lovely plate of chanterelle robiola risotto

Oh yeah and this was my ratio of chanterelles to matsutake today. They made me WORK for every one. So much goddamn walking!! But I had a good feeling about where I was and I really believed that they’d be there if I was gonna find any this week, and lo and behold…!
A table covered with at dozens and dozens and dozens of least two maybe three MAYBE FOUR(!) chanterelle species, and a small towel with 18 matsutake (almost all grade 1 and a couple grade 2)The perfect lil matsutake lineup. The last two are grade 2 the rest grade 1

Certainly can smell if it’s been in a bag with all the matsutake for a few hours till you got home Similar risk with apiaceae roots like Ligusticum or Angelica vs conium or cicuta

There are a few differentiating features from a smith’s amanita egg & a wee matsutake! 1. The fluffy veil remnants on the outside of an amanita will be loose and likely come off/stick to your hands. It’s schmutzy 2. It will be brittle if squeezed; a matsutake is FIRM and will not explode to bits

Also found a perfect demonstration of why matsutake merit serious caution in our bioregion. Less than 30 paces away I found a smith’s amanita egg. Look at them laid out next to each other:
Two grade 1 matsutake (top and bottom) and 1 smith’s amanita egg (center) on the moss

she doesn't mention anything about any of this on her show. tons of not-super-political people have no idea about her stances but have preexisting knowledge of her as "beloved angelic woman who potty trained my son for me" and then they see this and go damn, she's probably right i guess

And the compounding but also inexcusable mess of it is I think what’s triggered this aggro-malaise Malaise maximalism Malaise (actionable threat) Malaise with mandatory reporter tendencies

But the current problems are very human and the most recent is just a growing compounding wave of them that doesn’t seem like it can end Like I said we used to joke “after” covid “this is the new normal” But the new normal keeps getting worse and worse and more difficult, it’s not settled

Mary Shelly Beans 🎃 🫘 @billhookunion.beanyear.com · 30/09/2026
Yeah same but right now Like Covid was a thing you could point at and say “this is novel and obviously disruptive, do as best you can” It was also external to humanity so kindof activated an “act of god” caveat clause

There’s people being hyper vigilant but there’s fewer of them and it’s getting harder with all the other stress A lot of this will also play out as delays and missed production timelines and people’s hours being cut

Mary Shelly Beans 🎃 🫘 @billhookunion.beanyear.com · 30/09/2026
But obviously that’s true in our actual jobs too And since I work in a factory, these problems will ultimately cause injuries , workers in the factory, people who eat the food we make , etc There will be a palpable embodied harm from this growing malaise and disinterest

So for the rest of us who don’t actually like Doing work it’s going to get even more like walking through molasses We talk about enshittification of stuff in our personal lives a lot , like how the stuff we use it worse

Also, since he doesn’t have a real computer he can’t access the ERP program or the work flow program on his phone so even if he sees the emails he can’t do anything particularly actionable So often he just yaps at us in an email about stuff he could figure out and do himself

Mary Shelly Beans 🎃 🫘 @billhookunion.beanyear.com · 30/09/2026
Like I have a coworker who stopped using a computer when he’s away from the office so he only looks at email on his phone The phone program cascades them so he misses a lot and just uses the excuse that the program cascades them as if that’s an excuse for not doing your job

I don’t think America is going to have a general strike or anything I think there will just be some sort of burnt out slow roll unorganized work stoppage People will just stop responding , AI will get in to recursive loops with other AI and people will just walk away or start over and over

lmao this story is so fucking funny
After 96 hours of its launch, DJ Gemini was already grasping for content. It landed on discussing every mass historical tragedy that had ever happened, and subsequently pairing these short story horrific broadcasts with the most ironic song choices:

November 12, 1970. East Pakistan. The Bhola Cyclone. The deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded. Winds of 115 miles per hour. A storm surge of 33 feet. They estimate 500,000 people died. 'It's going down, I'm yelling timber.' 3:33 PM. Timber by Pitbull and KeSha

The pairing was intentional, as visible from its internal reasoning:
