MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is so sloppily written, it only makes sense as the protagonist’s sad delusion. My review of a film that explicitly says violence isn’t the answer and doesn’t define masculinity, in which violence literally solves everything and proves you’re a real man, is at @thewrap.com

Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto star in a live-action toy commercial so sloppy, it could kill 1980s nostalgia for good.

MANDALORIAN & GROGU: finally, they made a Star War for me to despise! Some cute moments can’t save it from feeling terminally dull & offensively inoffensive. Feels like marathoning the blandest episodes of the show that are also totally inessential. A waste of time & potential.

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is rough. The act structure’s a mess, half the score is out of place, the Hutt stuff is mostly lazy, and it has very little to do with anything of substance in the universe. Sometimes it’s just a movie about weird little guys, and those parts are fun at least.

The force is all about balance. Between dark and light. Between good and evil. Between political reckoning and fart jokes. 🎭 From Chaucer to Shakespeare to Andor you need that contrast of human emotions to bring your themes home – both within each story and across the Star Wars franchise.
