Funny how we never see the text of any of these “deals”. Normally they have to be ratified by congress (like USMCA) and signed into law, but has that happened for any of these? Or is it just “trust me bro, it’s awesome”

“We didn’t know ICE would be so barbaric” This isn’t new rhetoric, folks. You just wanted to believe the surrogates sent out to sanewash him, rather than the man himself.

A two panel screenshot from The Good Place where Janet is speaking to Chidi while Michael stands behind her.

In the first panel she's holding up a finger, grinning, and saying, "Fun fact: Columbus in the Bad Place"

In the second panel she's saying, "Because of all the raping, slave trade, and genocide."

There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.

But this second-order discrimination is *so* 20th century. Here in the 21st century, we have *first-order* price discrimination, in which AI-powered pricing algorithms use commercial surveillance data about *you*, personally, to predict the highest price you're willing to pay.

This is exactly right. When Trump - in the one out of a thousand times - gets misread or misinterpreted, he *runs with it*, because it makes his critics look obsessive and stupid. Firehosing people until they freak about everything is the strategy, and it works.

@smerconish.bsky.social It seems to me that the gun violence problem in this country is inextricably linked with the masculinity crisis. Too many people think to be a man means to be tough, to be tough means to be able to intimidate adversaries, and that brandishing a gun is the way to do that.

This is my take as well. Of course it’s still disingenuous because the only reason Iran had a path to a nuke at all is because Trump pulled out of the JCPOA and he’s done nothing about other adversaries that already possess nuclear weapons and delivery systems except make our alliances weaker.

What he needs to do is station some ICE agents in the upper tiers and have them beat down anyone who tries to emigrate to better. Maybe shoot a couple dead as a warning to others. Keep those migrants in their place.

This was probably rhetorical, but I’ll answer why: 1) due to salary cap rules in the NBA, he has been paid way less than his market value his entire career. 2) he has said he wants to own an NBA franchise after retiring, and the going price for those is in the tens of billions nowadays.

Finally got time to go through the full report and it knocked my socks off. Cohesive argument that housing, insurance, energy, and transportation costs should be thought of as one interconnected issue, and we should tackle as a package by building smarter in low hazard areas at SCALE.
1) Cut red tape specifically to allow homes of all shapes and sizes in connected, lower-hazard
established neighborhoods.
2) Put public land in lower-hazard established neighborhoods to work.
3) Simplify public financing so dollars for income-restricted housing and starter homes go
further.
4) Make disaster-prepared construction the norm.
5) Build lower utility costs into new homes from the start and make homes critical energy
infrastructure.
6) Align utility reforms with housing affordability and grid reliability.

You know what bugs me? Any Democratic President making a move to try to align the US with the metric system would be met with fierce, fierce resistance. But if Trump just said we should switch, those *same people* would be saying it’s long overdue and treating it as the most important thing.

Not the point, but also for your company to have any “Profits” it needs to take in more revenue than it is spending, which certainly does not apply to the US at this point.

Oh for gods sake. First, while it’s true that Florida has the highest ACA enrollment in the country, no, there are not "5 x more people enrolled in Obamacare in Florida than live in the state." Around 19% of the total population is enrolled, which is high but hardly over 100%. 1/5th =/= 5x.

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.
