People who have overcome adversity often oppose reform to make the goals they achieved less arduous for others. This tendency to “pull up the ladder” stems from a desire to protect the value of a hard-won achievement, according to a study. In PNAS Nexus: ow.ly/wAIM50Z8UK4

Feeding-regulated glycogen metabolism drives rhythmic liver protein secretion - Nature Metabolism
Hepatic glycogenolysis is essential for protein glycosylation and rhythmic secretion by the liver. Disruptions to hepatic glycogenolysis, caused by congenital diseases or physiological factors such as obesity, caloric restriction and changes to meal timing, alter hepatic protein secretion.

Good clocks are bad? Using TimeTeller we predict clock function and phase from breast tumour transcriptomes in a multi-cohort dataset including 1286 patients. We find that good tumour clock function is antagonistic to survival. Now out as preprint: Vasilyev et al. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Ten year survival in breast cancer patients TimeTeller predicted good or bad clock function shows good clock function is associated with shorter survival.

More than 60% of Australian medical researchers left active research roles between 2019 & 2024 because they could not make ends meet - while my costings from the PBO suggest the govt could more than double annual spending from the MRFF without any effect on its base level of funding.

Up to $1.4 billion in medical research remains unused under government cap
Researchers say securing funding has become increasingly tough, with many left with no choice but to spend a disproportionate amount of time applying for grants.
