Diurnal regulation of Acyl-CoA synthetase 3 (ACSF3) governs rhythmic mitochondrial lysine-malonylation and daily hepatic metabolism

Diurnal regulation of Acyl-CoA synthetase 3 (ACSF3) governs rhythmic mitochondrial lysine-malonylation and daily hepatic metabolism
Diurnal hepatic metabolism is coordinated by the circadian clock and feeding rhythms, notably through post-translational modifications. ACSF3 links feeding schedules to rhythmic lysine-malonylation and metabolic homeostasis. Le Questel et al. report that ACSF3 controls glucose, lipid metabolism and autophagy rhythmicity, positioning ACSF3 as a central regulator of diurnal liver homeostasis.

When we eat helps set the liver's metabolic rhythms
When we think about metabolism, we usually ask, "What did I eat? How much sugar, fat or protein was in the meal?" But through our research, we have become interested in another question: "When did I eat it?" This matters because metabolism does not work at the same pace throughout the day.

Happy to share our new paper in Cell Reports! We show that ACSF3 links feeding rhythms to hepatic metabolism through rhythmic lysine malonylation, regulating glucose/lipid metabolism and autophagy. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Delighted to share this new review article discussing the potential bidirectional communication between the liver and the central circadian clock. The systemic relationship is likely more complex than we thought! rdcu.be/egZWQ

‘Curiosity-driven research’ led to a recent major medical breakthrough. But it’s under threat
Curiosity-driven research is exactly what it sounds like: research driven by the goal of understanding nature without regard for application.

Time change season is here! While most Australian states fall back from DST, QLD, WA & NT don't practice it. @benweger.bsky.social and I break down why this might be a win in our latest piece for The Conversation. ⏰☀️ @emcra-imb.bsky.social theconversation.com/daylight-sav...

Daylight saving time ends Sunday. Why do we change our clocks? And how does it affect our bodies?
Here’s how your body might respond when you turn your clock back an hour on Saturday night.
