I think there’s that aspect, but there’s something else that I’ve been trying to put my finger on for a few years. We live in this “attention economy” where it feels like in order to make a living, you *have* to build a platform. But this isn’t new; that’s how evangelicalism has been for awhile.

Yeah. My wife is going to school to become an immigration advocate and the things she tells me about this system… I’ll just say, “Why don’t they come here legally” betrays a lot of ignorance about how impossible our system really is.

Very helpful look at the intersection of fundamentalist end times fervor and the AI accelerationism happening in the tech world, and why folks both religious and not seem to want to hasten the end of all things.

The problem is even more fundamental. LLMs do not understand causation or logic. They only understand correlation. Which means, even with full token context, they will always have the chance to hallucinate.

Yep. The new season of Dark Matter on Apple TV makes exactly that mistake. It ended really well after season 1, and now they’re trying to spin the thread out more just for the cash, and it is actively degrading what was a pretty thoughtful take on the multiverse concept.
