There's a faint moon here to the side of Lincoln Cathedral's west front as the late afternoon soon was getting ready to set - the Cathedral looked excellent as well inside after darkness had fallen and an organ festival by Jeffrey Makinson had played out

At today's visit to Gamston's Heritage Open Day, I found out about nearby Rockley (north Nottinghamshire) which didn't exist as a recognised place until the early 1800s. Prior to that, it was regarded as outlying land of nearby West Drayton.

I visited Tattershall Castle today and now have 3 different guidebooks - it's like having guided tours from 3 different people. Each time I visit, I get to delve a bit deeper into coming ever more alive in my mind - I also got to ponder the Tattershall deer park and chase whilst there

I was out at Gringley's Beacon Hill (north Notts) looking to understand where the boundaries of the medieval royal park there may have been - did the east edge follow the parish boundary? or may that edge have been a field or two further east into the Walkeringham parish?

I'll quotepost this reply James has given me about where the bricks for Tattershall Castle came from. The brick great tower was built from the 1430s into the 1440s (I gather) -so great to hear where bricks were being produced within the time of Henry VI -not long before the Wars of the Roses started

I had a cursory look to see which knights/barons may have fought for (or indeed against) Richard III at Bosworth - but found that such records have been very difficult to discover, and perhaps made deliberately so by Henry Tudor (Henry VII) ? #WarsoftheRoses #RichardII #HenryVII #medieval #Notts

A follow-up to the earlier note on medieval brick buildings. Brick-making was happening at Beverley and Hull from at least the 1300s. Examinations of bricks at Tattershall seem to use Lincolnshire clay. As for Gainsborough Old Hall and Thornton Abbey Gatehouse, I wonder where the bricks came from ?
