Today is the day I avoid the news. I don’t watch or listen. Somehow, over the years, it’s gotten harder, not easier. I was fortunate to not lose anyone close to me that day, but the impact of the events and aftermath and my proximity to NYC seems to compound each year. So, I guard myself today.

I’m reminded of my inspiration for becoming a school librarian. It was “Seeking Meaning” by Dr. Carol Kuhlthau. Library and info science is not just finding information, it’s deriving and applying meaning.

I’ve created a new favorite way to refer to my aging graying hair. Husband pointed out my silver hairs in the sunlight and I said, “Those are my Wisdom Hairs” and he said, “Aw honey, it goes with my Wisdom Beard” to which I replied “And your Ancient Sage Sideburns.”

You know it’s going to be an extra special episode of Midsomer Murders when a character from the US is featured. The actors work so hard for their accents.

Gloria Steinem blazed paths for many. Losing giants like her, Dolly Parton and others is sad, but what I am most reminded of in times like these, is that their work is meant to be an example of who we all can be. The best way to honor their legacies is to continue them.

I’m playing catch up on It’s a Superpower?? and was listening to episode 4 today. Within the first 5 minutes I was literally laughing out loud in my car. I definitely needed that laugh today, too. Thanks @thedailytism.com

For those who do big batch cooking to freeze portions, here’s a tip you might like: I used to premake meatloafs and meatballs to freeze and pull out for easy dinners. I missed having the freshly cookked finished product. So, last year I tried something new. It worked so well, I did it again!

I remember listening to the podcast Dolly Parton’s America and in one episode, a person talked about seeing a Dolly Parton concert and adoringly stated “that majestic bitch just started playing a goddamn pan flute.” She was indeed one majestic bitch and the world was lucky to have her for a time.

I’ve seen posts complaining about how in Ride or Die, Hannah Waddingham’s face was altered a lot to make her look younger. People need to actually know what they’re talking about. It’s a flashback to 25 years ago. They made her look younger for the scene. Everything else, she has looked normal.

Speaking of songs and ear worms, it’d be great if commercials would stop using old pop songs. The ones where words are changed to integrate pharmaceuticals are especially painful for me to hear. They literally make my insides hurt. Can we go back to original jingle writers? Thanksomuch.

Teen has been washing their own sport uniform this past year asked for help with a different type of laundry. I put the detergent in and he asked “Are you supposed to add that every time?” Me: Have you not been using detergent every time?? Him: I thought it was in there and it just dispensed it. 🤦‍♀️

This is a SUPER-IMPORTANT #TechLiteracy lesson for your students - and your staff!! We've often said nothing goes away on the Internet - and now any anonymity you thought you had is also compromised. Particularly important for students who love to troll. /end #TLSky #EduSky #SchoolLibrarians

Some years ago, I realized that what students/people need in order to be life-long learners in the Internet age wasn’t all that complicated or new. They need to be able to ask good questions, stay curious, and be unafraid to challenge their own thoughts. Now with generative AI… nothing’s changed.

This does a good job of summing it up. #AiIsTheProblem #TecLiteracy
Side-by-side images and quotes; on the left, Sam Altman is quoted as saying: "We are deploying responsibly developed Al to liberate humanity from menial labor and usher in an era of unparalleled creativity and abundance."
On the right, Naomi Klein is quoted as saying: "You ingested the entire written output of human civilization without consent, without compensation, and without credit, to build a system whose primary commercial application is eliminating the jobs of the people whose work you consumed. You are not liberating human creativity - you are strip-mining it and selling it back at a markup while calling the theft 'training data."

You can tell my ADHD meds haven’t kicked in yet because I went in to my browser to search something, made a typo which made me think of something amusing, spent 3 minutes following that amusing thought process, drafted a post about it, reconsidered, deleted it and then started a game on my phone.

When do kids outgrow the stage where you are resting and do absolutely nothing, but the second you get up to do a thing, they instantly need you? When do they take your advice to plan ahead and check the list twice for themselves so you don’t have to abandon your afternoon plans? That sort of stuff.
