First I mix the raw ingredients. Today was 4 double portions of meatloaf. (With 3 teens, maximizing portions is key) Then we vacuum pack the portions and write with a sharpie what they are and the date. I lay them flat to freeze for easy long-term storage. Then, when it’s 2 months
A large silver restaurant tray has a meat mixture in one quarter of it. Also pictured is portion of the mixture is in a bag.Four bags of the meat mixture ate stacked on top of each other on a counter.

I am so proud to have finally finished my latest crochet project. So many starts and stops to a few different projects, but this one is DONE and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
A crocheted shawl hangs in front of a pair of white doors. Golf yarn the largest section in the middle, transitioning to a paler yellow on either side note and then a creamy white at the tips. All three colors are used in tassels at the end.

Funny that this your post should come across my feed. I’ve recently been diving deep into an app called Brushes to doodle, something I haven’t done in years. I’ve made 15 drawings in the past week. It wasn’t even a conscious decision to create in response to AI or anything. It just feels good.
Mahogany colored thin ink-like drawings. From the top left hangs what resembles a giant leaf draped down the side. The bottom right sprouts vine-like elements that climb up the side of the page. Additional sparse lines take space closer to the center.

Another amazingly written book today. The deftness of imagery through words that are both strong and soft almost knocked me out. Ultraviolet by Aida Salazar
Book cover of “Ultraviolet” by Aida Salazar. Profile of a boy with a mop of super curly hair on top of his head and closely shaved at the sides so the hair. He is shaded purple and vivid orange, pink and greens surround him. The tagline is “Sometimes life explodes in technicolor.”

Just finished this. I barely have the words to describe the magical journey this story weaves. It’s sweet and sad and speaks to the harsh experience of budding teen girls with gentleness and whimsy. A must have for middle school.
Book cover for “GRETA” by J.S. Lemon. Light beige background. Center is an illustration of earth-toned green-hued wings similar to a lunar moth. A girl is curled into a ball at the center. She is slim, white-skinned wearing brown shorts, white athletic socks with brown trim and a white t-shirt with brown trim. Her face is partly obscured by short, light brown curly hair. A tagline says “There’s more than one way to change.”

Look what is featured on my “New Books” shelf!
It’s a young adult book called Kid X by author Tracey Baptiste. The cover depicts a black boy running to the right and running opposite is a robot that resembles the boy.

Wine in a Star Wars glass, my favorite book and a cool spring breeze- a perfect Friday evening

I’m getting closer to finishing this crocheted wrap. The stitch is called starburst.
Vibrant yellow colored yarn crocheted in a stitch pattern of small connected circles in rows to make a shawl. A crochet hook sits in a fold.

I’ve been having some fun with slides for school announcements.
Pale green background with flower stems popping up from dirt. There are images of book covers in place of blossoms. An avatar of a woman is in the lower right corner and she is smiling and holding a bouquet of books. Text reads “See what new books are sprouting up on the shelves.”The background is wood like a table. A white dinner plate is flanked by a blue-gray napkin, fork and knife. Book covers sit in the plate. Text reads “Books. They’re what’s in the library.” The subheading reads “Brought to you by. The Library Book Coalition.” A woman’s avatar is in the lower right corner wearing a chef hat and holding a bbq fork.

A goal this past week was to complete a daily positivity/gratitude check. Sometimes remembering there are good things takes a bit effort. It can even be something little, like having 5 min to sit at the table to sip coffee and eat a bite of breakfast before rushing off to work.
A white plate with light floral pattern sits on a pale wood table. A fork and part of a quiche are on the plate. A small cup of coffee is in the upper right.

Few things are as satisfying as a good precision knife.
Two small pieces of paper that read “Search the catalog” with a small graphic of a person in a boat with a telescope sit on a cutting mat. A silver hobby knife is nearby.

So excited to make new signage this year! (I <3 Canva) This poster covers a blah spot near the door to the library. Of course it’s only after I’ve done all the work and had it printed that I see it really should have been Explore Discover Learn Repeat. (face palm).
Poster with blue background. The words discover, explore, learn, repeat in capital letters are listed.

If you forget to bring a spoon for your yogurt because it’s the last 7 days of school and you don’t have any functioning brain cells left, you can always use a granola bar in its place.

This is courtesy a book I highly doubt is on a banned book radar. It is impossible to erase ideas. Book banning might cover some up for a moment, but they will never go away and they will always rise up. Keep reading. You never know what you might find.
Text from a book. “Anaya glanced at the clothing: a brown jumpsuit with short sleeves. On the breast was stenciled L9. This did not seem like a good sign. If you gave someone a number, it was because you were taking away their name. And once you took away someone’s name, it was a lot easier to take away whatever you wanted.”

I made this a few weeks back to make the point with some students that people are being spoon fed content. Bad effort at making the image aside (I was rushed for time). It seems apt for this post. So much shit is literally being shoveled into our faces.
A smiley face emoji made with the words AI and algorithms is holding a spoon with baby food. A man’s head is on a baby’s body in a high chair and his mouth is opened wide.

Working with some classes today and my presentation slide demonstrating how people are spoonfed information online is a big hit with the middle schoolers.
Graphic of a man’s head on a baby’s body in a high chair being spoonfed by a smiley face made from letters and words AI and Algorithms.

Seems about right.
The graphic is titled a timeline of the Internet and it depicts phases of Internet evolution from 1983 through the present. It ends with a smiley face of AI and algorithms spoon feeding an adult head on a baby’s body.

I needed some creativity therapy last week, so I made some new signs to highlight some featured books. I’m incredibly pleased with the results. People around the school have been calling me the Canva Queen and by people I mean me, I have declared myself to be Canva Queen.

The key ingredient not mentioned in that graphic is time. Learning is fine. People can learn quickly, but they can also forget quickly. Learning only turns into knowledge over time. Doing online “research” for 10 minutes isn’t the same as going through the genuine process of becoming knowledgeable.
