Today #SocialSecurity announced a 3.6% annual cost of living increase to help retirees. Though helpful, it is insufficient to keep up with rising costs for groceries, medical care, and utilities. The Trump Administration tariffs and war in Iran are driving prices up, and our seniors need relief.

On the 251st Birthday of the US Navy, thinking about local heroes across NW Ohio including Admiral Alene Duerk, and the Six Oddo Brothers. As the first female Admiral in Naval History, and a family with a storied naval legacy, both are a testament to the people of our region who answered the call.

This is a great question. Doing so also violates US law passed in overwhelmingly bipartisan fashion by both parties in 2022. I support new legislation to stop any lifeline and support for Dictator Putin, but we should also follow current law.

Prices are at all-time highs and NW Ohioans are feeling it. The Federal Reserve found prices for consumer goods would have decreased 0.9% in 2025, but instead they increased 2.9% due to the President’s reckless across the board tariffs. This tariff regime is responsible for our affordability crisis.

The tariffs on Canada and the war in Iran are causing the price of gas and diesel to skyrocket. This week in Napoleon, Henry County I saw Ohioans paying $4.35 for a gallon of regular, and $6.89 for a gallon of diesel. This is unsustainable for our hardworking NW Ohio families, truckers, and farmers.

There is no more pressing issue for NW Ohioans than rising costs. A series of arbitrary and reckless tariffs along with an unnecessary war in Iran have pushed many Ohioans to the breaking point. The rising cost of gas, diesel, fertilizer, aluminum, and more has driven up prices everywhere.

Tariffs are taxes on the American people. They increase the cost of everything. Rising prices especially hit hard in my home state of Ohio, the largest exporter of goods to Canada in the Great Lakes region. Our Great Lakes economy is the third largest in the world, amounting to over $6 Trillion.

The horrific attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon 25 years ago changed our nation forever. Nearly 3,000 American lives were lost that day. Many thousands more 9/11 first responders have lost their lives since from extreme complications they experienced. We will never forget.
