The tariffs on Canada and the war in Iran are causing the price of gas and diesel to skyrocket. This week in Napoleon, Henry County I saw Ohioans paying $4.35 for a gallon of regular, and $6.89 for a gallon of diesel. This is unsustainable for our hardworking NW Ohio families, truckers, and farmers.

There is no more pressing issue for NW Ohioans than rising costs. A series of arbitrary and reckless tariffs along with an unnecessary war in Iran have pushed many Ohioans to the breaking point. The rising cost of gas, diesel, fertilizer, aluminum, and more has driven up prices everywhere.

Tariffs are taxes on the American people. They increase the cost of everything. Rising prices especially hit hard in my home state of Ohio, the largest exporter of goods to Canada in the Great Lakes region. Our Great Lakes economy is the third largest in the world, amounting to over $6 Trillion.

The President’s Canada Tariffs will hit our Great Lakes region hardest—driving costs up for families already struggling to make ends meet. The average Ohio household will see a $2,274 increase in costs and some border Districts, and communities like NW Ohio could see costs go up by over $5,000.

Following an uptick in attempted ship jumpings from the USS Abraham Lincoln, news broke today that their 9 month deployment without shore leave is coming to an end. The well being of our sailors must be taken seriously. Hopefully the crew and their families will be reunited soon.
