Nobody loves New York like New York loves New York, and I think that should teach us about having a lot of love for yourself. Like shit, the subways are grimy but I am the coolest person in the world and I will fight anyone who makes me feel otherwise

I go back and forth every year thinking about grad school to study policy. I would focus on policing & political communications. It would be a dreammmm to study full time in a city or town with a sexy dark academia aesthetic, and I’m making a plan to apply this year 😭 wish me luck!

I ranted to my mom on the plane about how I feel confident about my policy work b/c there are technofascists, politicians & co at the very tippy top who are morally corrupt, pedophile r*pists, racist, sexist, incompetent, do nothing but death & destruction, & most importantly, a bunch of loooosers

If Trump & co has the evil, unhinged audacity to ask for trillions for war & genocide, I would like us to have equal audacity to demand trillions for healthcare, housing, universal basic income, and climate action to start.

The book of choice I decided on bring to my trip to New York is Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump. TSA didn’t even take that out! They did take out my gothic heart carabiner though and threw it away.

In 2026, the US is a country where we sign other people up to do things we don't want to do and we do not appreciate the labor of those who do the work we don't want to do. It's the conciergification of US society [without the tips].

Ok. I am in New York right now, and I feel the need to communicate NYC is maybe a combo of these memes. So beautiful and vibrant, full of culture, but I’m gonna be a huge Debbie downer and say: the rent is still too damn high, and I just saw 10 NYPD officers arrest an unarmed person 😤

At least 57 people have died in ICE detention since the start of President Trump's second term — more than double the number of deaths recorded from the previous four years combined. ICE must be held accountable before any more lives are lost.

Deaths in ICE Detention More Than Doubles Under Trump
Death rate could be higher if it includes hidden deaths of people released from detention that ICE is reporting under Trump administration.

A word to our advocates about secondary trauma & our bodies as our moral compass: After witnessing or hearing about something, ever need to go to the bathroom to throw up? Or cry? Or need to vent to someone?

Abolish fraternities: they’re not only breeding grounds for sexual assault and misogyny, but a professional network for men to climb up into positions of power where they make harmful decisions about our bodies and lives.

A policy expert from another city told me that we aren’t being ambitious enough in Portland and in Oregon. That we need to ask for more. As someone who has been held back and criticized for asking for “too much,” like civil rights, healthcare for all, housing for all, etc, I was like ok bet lmao

Don't let copaganda fool you — police violence is not tied to their safety. In 2025, the vast majority of killings began with police responding to suspected non-violent offenses or cases where no crime was reported.
Screenshot of chart showing how police killings in 2025 began. 680 were suspected non-violent offenses or cases where no crime was reported. 112 were traffic violations. 84 were unknown.

The Portland Police want you to believe the only way you can have a prompt response to your 911 call is to hire a ton more cops. They even made a video about their staffing for 911 responses. They left out crucial info such as many 911 calls don't require an armed sworn officer's response.
PPB Releases Video to Explain Bureau Staffing
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is pleased to debut a new video explaining how Bureau staffing is structured and why the total number of sworn members does not reflect the number of officers available to respond to 911 calls at any given time. See less

The first weeks of classes in September at universities are called the "red zone," based on how much SA cases happen. I think this is the time with the Cornell case to protest college institutions for how they handle SA cases on campus.

“I consistently break a rule I consider to be not only fake but pernicious. I know what I’m doing and why.” -ursula k le guin
Fake Rule: The generic pronoun in English is he.
Violation: "Each one in turn reads their piece aloud."
This is wrong, say the grammar bullies, because each one, each person is a singular noun and their is a plural pronoun. But Shakespeare used their with words such as everybody, anybody, a person, and so we all do when we're talking. ("It's enough to drive anyone out of their senses," said George Bernard Shaw.)
The grammarians started telling us it was incorrect along in the sixteenth or seventeenth century. That was when they also declared that the pronoun he includes both sexes, as in "If a person needs an abortion, he should be required to tell his parents." My use of their is socially motivated and, if you like, politically correct: a deliberate response to the socially and politically significant banning of our genderless pronoun by language legislators enforcing the notion that the male sex is the only one that counts. I consistently break a rule I consider to be not only fak but pernicious. I know what I'm doing and why.
