“Carney is tilting the scales in the favour of employers.” Marty Warren, National Director of USW, is right. Carney talks about protecting workers while his gov’t undermines their bargaining power, weakens their right to strike, and puts corporate interests first. www.thespec.com/opinion/cont...

The Carney government is tilting the scales in the favour of employers
He is seeking more ways to intervene in strikes whenever the national economic interest is at stake.

Glad to see this! Working people deserve to know government's working to help make their lives easier — not to make giant corporations' bank accounts fatter.

And keep the conversation going after September 30. Talk to your coworkers about reconciliation and the role we can play as individuals, in our unions and in the broader community. These are actions of solidarity — part of the only real path to lasting certainty, prosperity and justice.

Today, we encourage workers throughout BC to take action to learn about residential schools and their legacy, and to recommit to truth and reconciliation. Events are taking place across the province; find one near you or online: www.indigenousbc.com/events/.

We saw an especially disgusting example last weekend with the grotesque actions of white supremacists on Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc land. BC’s unions are resolute in condemning these statements and actions.

It seems unthinkable that anyone would defend that system, or deny its harms. They’re a matter of historical fact. Yet in BC today there are loud voices doing exactly that — and, shamefully, some belong to candidates for and members of the Legislature.

And it’s a day to remember and honour the Indigenous children who were taken and who never returned home; the Survivors who endured years of mistreatment and abuse; and their families, descendants and communities who live with the impact of that legacy.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which has its roots in Orange Shirt Day, observed this year for the 14th time running. It’s a day dedicated to understanding the legacy of Canada’s residential school system and those it affected.

Canada's economic security begins at the kitchen table, when workers can make a better living and families can get ahead. And the way we get that is by bargaining for it — which only works when both sides have real power. #BCPoli #BCLab #CanLab #RightToStrike

BC brought in a pay transparency law three years ago. It was a start, but it doesn't do anything to close the gap — it just shines a light on it. It's obvious employers won't fix this unless they have to.

That isn't science fiction. It's called surveillance pricing, and it's what retailers from online giants to grocery chains are champing at the bit to do. They have your data 📈 — brokers are selling them everything from your credit card records to your web browsing history.

So lineups get longer. That coffee and sandwich you were going to have before your flight get more and more expensive. Surcharges and fees start appearing. You end up paying more and more to fly out to visit family, take a holiday or travel for work.

How do we know? Because we've seen it happen over and over around the world. The giant corporations who end up running your airport don't it as a public service — they're aiming to make a profit. So they fire workers. Slash wages for the ones they keep. Hike up prices. And cut services.
