Another amazing turnout at yesterday's screening of the People's Emergency Briefing! It's clear there's a huge amount of concern about the climate crisis in Bassetlaw, but also a real determination to do something about it. People are ready for change, and the Green Party is ready to deliver it 💚

It was great to see so many Green Party members and local residents at last night's screening of the People's Emergency Briefing hosted by the Bassetlaw Environmental Network at Idle Valley Nature Reserve. Huge thanks to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust for letting us all use such a fantastic venue 💚

This summer's heatwaves and devastating forest fires are yet another reminder that the climate crisis isn't some distant threat. It's happening right now. Nottinghamshire deserves leadership that's prepared to tackle the climate crisis head-on, not promote anti-science, conspiracist nonsense.
A quote from Councillor Bert Bingham, Reform Cabinet Member for Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, which states: "I've never seen such nonsense as the anthropogenic global warming hoax"

The quote is overlaid onto an image of a forest fire.

Green MPs' response to the violent unrest in Belfast.
Green Party Logo.
This morning we have seen the horrific reports from Belfast of people driven from their homes based on nothing but the colour of their skin, with some politicians, including some in the House of Commons, using a truly horrendous individual incident to blame a whole community.

Bold text: As Green MPs we condemn this scapegoating as racist, wrong and at odds with British values.

Headshots of the Green MPs appear alongside a list of their names:
Sian Berry MP, Ellie Chowns MP, Carla Denyer MP, Adrian Ramsay MP, Hannah Spencer MP.

We stand in solidarity with the trans community.

The EHRC’s proposed Code of Practice is a direct threat to the dignity, safety and participation of trans people in public lifeOn 21 May 2026, the Women and Equalities Minister, Bridget Phillipson, laid the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice before Parliament. If approved, it will shape how the Equality Act is applied across public services. MPs have until 30 June 2026 to oppose its implementation.

The draft Code encourages the exclusion of trans people from toilets, changing rooms, and other public spaces; legitimises invasive questioning and policing of people’s bodies and identities; pressures service providers to adopt exclusionary and segregationist policies; and would significantly increase the likelihood of trans people experiencing harassment, outing, and denial of services.

Taken together, these provisions represent an unprecedented rollback of the rights of the trans community. If implemented, the EHRC guidance would normalise discrimination in everyday life, undermine existing equality protections and create widespread confusion for organisations attempting to comply with the law.

The East Midlands Green Party condemns this draft Code in the strongest terms and calls on MPs to reject the Code, to ensure that it receives proper parliamentary scrutiny and to protect the integrity of the Equality Act from exclusionary reinterpretation.

Restore the free school meals holiday voucher scheme!
Council cuts to the Holiday Voucher scheme are due to cost affected families across Nottingham around £130 per child, every year!
Reverse the proposed ending of the Meals at Home Service!
Around 95 vulnerable citizens in Nottingham use the
Meals at Home Service - the Council wants to end it!

E: NottinghamSOS@outlook.comIn September Nottingham City Council wrote to parents, saying it was going to end Free School Meal vouchers during school holiday periods, due to the Labour Government cutting funds. That will directly impact around 17,800 children. The Council itself recognises that "this change may well have a considerable impact on households who have previously relied on this support."
In October, the Council stated its intention to end the Meals at Home service, which it
expects will impact around 95 vulnerable residents. These decisions are yet another devastating blow to the most vulnerable in our community on top of the other cuts to vital local services such as libraries and
community centres. They mean snatching meals away from economically
disadvantaged children and elderly residents who rely on the Meals at Home service for freshly cooked hot meals and visits from trained staff who look out for residents’ welfare.
We say Enough is Enough! Nottingham SOS have been campaigning against cuts since Jan 2024, and have succeeded in halting some of the cuts. With joint action, supported by community groups and local trade unions, cuts can be stopped and services restored. Already in 2020 the then Tory Government was forced into a 'u turn', to provide food vouchers for all children eligible for free school meals during the holiday periods. Now they are under attack again! We say the wealth is available in society to properly fund public community services.
We say, instead of putting out 'apologetic' statements to residents, the Council should say no to all cuts, including the Holiday Food Voucher Scheme. We say the Council should take this 'No Cuts' message out to the Nottingham community and build support for a battle for more, not less, money from Central Government.
