Reforms vetting procedure and retention rate of councillors is poor! Reform has by far the highest amount of councillors leaving the party for various reasons of defections, resignations and suspensions since LE2026. The Lib Dems have by far the lowest amount of Councillors leaving of any party.

The Labour group submitted an amendment to the motion put forward by Reform. While we believe the motion should have been rejected outright, we welcome that Bassetlaw Council has at least seemingly rejected the transphobic sentiment that was at the heart of this motion.

On 3rd February, Reform UK councillors are bringing an anti-trans, discriminatory motion to an Extraordinary Meeting of Bassetlaw District Council. It misrepresents the law and would increase harm and exclusion for trans people at a time of rising hostility.
