I've taken time to reflect on the situation and listen to what survivors have to say about their experiences. I do think some of the discussion has been uncharitable but a lot of people also haven't taken it remotely seriously enough.

Rehabilitative justice should focus on the victim first, and a shift away from punitive justice doesn't mean there should be no more punishments at all, just that justice should not begin and end there. There still must be consequences, and in this case the consequences weren't serious enough.

What matters is what is most conducive to the victim's safety and healing. Seeing the person who violated you go on to have a successful independent media career and then be defended by his fans probably doesn't help much, regardless of whether he has genuinely changed for the better.

Vagueposting but just putting some thoughts out. In retrospect I do believe his platform was built on false pretenses and a lot of the talk about justice hasn't focused nearly enough on the victim. It is only a further violation of her rights that the whole thing has become such a huge dialogue.
