As my friend @jael.bsky.social has said, the data center backlash both is and isn’t about data centers. It’s partially the visible way to push back against AI (even though not all data centers are for AI). But it’s also a way to voice anger about the power of big tech.

Today we beat Stephen Miller’s lawsuit mill in court! For 3 years I’ve been a defendant in a case filed by America First Legal on behalf of Gateway Pundit & a random antivaxxer we’d never heard of until she sued us. The plaintiffs claimed we “censored” them. It was a lie. They just lost.

I agree with this, and the thing too is that LLMs are the printing press: you cannot uninvent a technology. social media as it currently exist are specific networks from specific companies and you can destroy networks. modern social media can be made to go away in a way that LLMs simply cannot.
