A despised President is trying to tear down a monument erected by a grateful nation to honor a beloved, fallen, hero who not only served in the military, but also as President, forcing Russia to back away from Cuba, and beginning the mission to land on the moon. The contrast couldn't be sharper.

On 9/11, flying to the U.S. from Europe, we landed in Halifax and were taken to a red cross shelter. Next couple of days, Canadians were lined up at the shelter begging us to spend the night in their homes. School kids sent hand drawn sympathy cards. Truly, the kindest of people!

Just found out that Stephen Dobyns died last week.
The day I learned my wife was dying
I told myself if anyone said, Well, she had
a good life, I’d punch him in the nose.
How much life represents a good life?

Maybe a hundred years, which would
give us nearly forty more to visit Oslo
and take the train to Vladivostok,
learn German to read Thomas Mann

in the original. Even more baseball games,
more days at the beach and the baking
of more walnut cakes for family birthdays.
How much time is enough time? How much

is needed for all these unspent kisses,
those slow walks along cobbled streets?

Thank you. I would love to see how the concept of agency extends to replication. All the articles I have seen side-step this issue and without it there is no tie-in between agency and evolution, and the latter mekes no teleological sense.

The inability to replicate does not rule out livingness. But why do living beings replicate? It does not seem like agential behavior with no benefit to the individual (“selfish gene” aside). There is lot on evolution but not on how evolution by replication promotes agency for individual organisms.
