I'm quite proud of this, actually. I wear these Levi's everywhere, work, store, protest... I added the No Kings sign after the first protest. I tried to use all the colors of the Progress Pride Flag, or as close as I could with the threads that I had. #handembroidery #AllArtIsPolitical #Pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🖤🤎
Hand embroidery made by me. Mostly French knots and felt applique on denim. Some random flowers using various stitches. Progress Pride tree, No Kings sign and California poppy being the most prominent items stitched!

The grammar school in Old Fox's village was very old, established by a rich Flemish merchant in 1515. Hare's schoolroom was in the original building, and it had a very elaborately carved fireplace, in which a lovely fire roared throughout the winter months. Every morning in December, he would gather his class around the hearth, each choosing a warm woollen blanket from the oak chest under the windows, and read to them from Dickens or Hardy or the Brontës. Afterwards, Hare brewed a great pot of tea, and they made toast over the fire with long toasting forks. Those mornings were remembered by Hare's pupils for the rest of their lives. For some, that toast, slathered with creamy Dorset butter and sweet plum jam, would be their best meal of the day, ebbing the endless gnawing hunger which accompanied so many lives in those early years of the 1930s.

A gown for an undine in search of a human soul, the Bord de rivière au printemps dress was designed in 1900 by architect, painter & sculptor, Victor Prouvé, its heavy folds embellished with a glittering dragonfly, heavy as gold, pale silvery irises and river weeds, tangled in swift water.

Don’t let lightning catch you off guard. ⚡Follow the 30-minute rule: wait at least half an hour after you see lightning or hear thunder before heading back outside. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Storm Safety during outdoor events: Move to a fully-enclosed structure or hard-top vehicle at the first sign of lightning. Wait 30 minutes after the last strike before resuming activities. Watch for falling debris and flying objects during high winds. Use caution when walking on wet surfaces to avoid dangerous slips and falls. When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!

July 22 is the birthday of Edward Hopper (1882), who reportedly once said, "All I ever wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house" (The Writer's Almanac). HIGH NOON, 1949 Oil on canvas 27 ½ x 39 ½ inches Dayton Art Institute tinyurl.com/ym4k9sc4 #EdwardHopper
About the painting, Hopper’s wife, Josephine, who posed for most of his female figures, wrote: “White clapboard house, grey shingle roof, deep grey shadows on house & roof. Red chimney & foundation, burnt grass & upper window shades pale yellow ochre. Sky cerulean, horizontal shafts of mackeral [sic] sky white, green along horizon lower left. Blond female in stringy blue kimono open in front over possibly naked body, effect sloppy, but such a hot day! E.H. made little model of house out of heavy white paper to observe how light would fall on corner of house.”

It was very still & the sky was the dull silver of a mermaid's mirror. The swifts who nested in the thatch were leaving that night, flying to Madrid, then south, south, south across the Sahara, carrying tales of Old Fox’s cottage, tales of love, of sickness, of fear, of hope.

Wolf had grown up in a little Georgian brick house by the river Thames at Greenwich, and as a cub, he used to sit up in bed and watch the glittering lights in the darkness and the spill and moiré of the dawn as the tide heaved about. Much of the time, the water was brown and dirty and stank of sewers and dead fish in warm weather, but sometimes you could smell Sumatran spices or the tar from the docks, or when the weather-vanes spun to the east at the Observatory, the cold salt-hard battering winds of the North Sea, where his father had worked and his father before him, and his father before him and back and back for centuries.

Not far from the Bears' Hamlet was a chalk stream, half hidden by trees and water mint and meadowsweet. The water was clear and fast and cold as ice. On maps it had no name, but locally they often called it the Well stream, as it came from some deep, underground place, a place of crystal and dripping walls and the low rumbly growl of dragons so old they had quite forgotten the world of golden wheat fields and singing kettles above.

Midnight. Mouse had blown out her candle & the room was suddenly as strange & silvered as the sea. Smoke & the sweet rich smell of the hay. Over the stubble in the fields, over the solemn hay-ricks, a great harvest moon & the World stilled, heavy in its turning & oh so old.

Wolf was so hot he'd gone to lie in the Still Room, where the stone floor was lovely & cool, & Old Fox's herbs honeyed the air. Wake me up at tea time, he called out to Old Fox. Right you are, came the reply, & as Wolf drifted off, he felt a great wave of undemanding happiness.
