I’ve stated before that we just can’t tell people who are trying to get a foothold in industry to (physically) circulate in an ecosystem and to BE at events where agents and publishers are in order to do that or to progress. It demands money, good health and that you’re not an unpaid carer.

If I were to teach a weekly online class on well-being and writing, would you like that? I have the background, the skill but also the subtlety of lived experience that comes from turbulence, illness and being a carer. I don't want this to be about industry, but about writing and its manifold joys x

This is one of the best biographies of a writer that I have read. Grace Metalious was a 1950s American housewife who wrote a novel loosely based on the residents of her New Hampshire. That book was called Peyton Place and it became the best-selling American novel of all time for a while.

Question for people who play Wordle/Connections and so on regularly: what's the perfect amount of time for it to take, per day? At what point does it tip over from agreeable distraction to 'this is eating into my life'? I realise it depends partly on what else you have to do in the day.

Looky looky I got booky! So excited to get an early look at an Austen-y mystery from my fabulous stablemate @lucyvandrew.bsky.social!
The advanced paperback proof copy of A Very Vexing Murder by Lucy AndrewThe back cover of the advanced proof paperback copy of A Very Vexing Murder by Lucy Andrew. It has a quote from Mr Knightley from Jane Austen’s book Emma: “She knows nothing herself, and looks upon Emma as knowing every thing… her ignorance is hourly flattery. How can Emma imagine she has anything to learn herself, while Harriet is presenting such a delightful inferiority?”
Beneath that it reads: But Harriet Smith - wallflower and amateur sleuth - has conned them all.
