1/3 Thoughts on the PM's speech 🧵 The Good - v well delivered and had a solid argument. I'm sceptical about parts but at least there was an argument not just platitudes, which is so damn rare these days. He was sensible to flag the end of the triple lock way in the future, finally nettle grasped.

I knew the food industry stuffed salt in their offerings but I only realised just *how* much once I started to control my intake. Even a small reduction would probably save many thousands of lives. Sadly would need to be imposed by regulations as otherwise we’d have poisoners for profit.

The main reason I think there won’t be a general election is because the guy who could call one - Andy Burnham - has consistently ruled out any prospect of one being called. A secondary reason is that the people most excited about the prospect are fools, Tories and Tory fools.

Saw De Gaulle: Liberté this afternoon- it’s good but not as good as the first. A bit darker and probably even less historically accurate. Still packed a punch and ultimately delivers a strong message about Anglo-French relations. Definitely worth seeing both films.

Pains me to say it but the evidence that the NHS is going down hill in my world keeps mounting up - today’s being repeat prescription not issued and an appointment letter arriving two days after the appointment. Last twelve months decline has accelerated after a slow improvement for previous year.

The last two Speakers have heavily pushed this trend by granting almost every UQ request and actually complaining that Ministers don't offer statements on footling events and subjects which would never have prompted statements until now. Also most of the questions are really 'look at me'
