#amwriting
A still from the film Mullholland Drive of Laura Harring's character covering her face in horror and Naomi Watts's character looking concerned at her but the film is doubled so that there are two overlapping versions of each. One version of Laura Harring is labeled my novel and another me. One version of Naomi Watts is labeled me and the other my novel.

between two worlds, Mark Irwin
A NAP IN SPRING

The world continues without you, rooted
in sleep, a soul the future loves. Who are you
now, traveler? sucking a world's phosphor images up
through the straw of your brain while dicotyledonous
things remind you how we are all love's pawns
riding a wild green carnival watched by the violet
eye of some cloud. Impossible perfumes seduce
you: hyacinth, lily, iris, lifting their invisible skirts
toward a farther, more beautifully intangible sex. Trees
drop their yellow sperm across the lawns. People sneeze.
The soul leaps! Worms irrigate toward the sun. Insect
larvae shiver, swell, opening into the air's gown
and hungry orange beaks ravenous as gods. Dragonflies,
flame-blue, needle and mend the horizon. When you
wake you will be exactly between two worlds,
learning to let go, learning to hold.

An excellent possum poem by Yusef Komunyakaa
The Art of Atrophy
The possum plays dead
as Spanish moss, a seasoned actor
giving us his dumb show.
He dreams of ripe persimmons,
watching a dried stick
beside a white thunderstone,
with one eye half-open, a grin
slipping from the crooked corners
of his mouth, that old silver moon
playing tricks again. How long
can he play this waiting game,
till the season collapses,
till blowflies, worms, & ants
crawl into his dull coat
& sneak him away under
the evening star? Now
he's a master escape artist
like Lazarus, the gray
lining from a workman's glove
lost in frost-colored leaves.

the houses, sky,
the colors, sounds.
