I probably would have been taken by the LLM rendered piece, but would have asked for edits I can't believe they didn't ask for

Watching those Criterion Closet videos. A lot of times Blu-ray is the highest format a film is available in. But not irregularly those famous people hold a Blu-ray edition of a title Criterion has on 4K. Why don't they watch art in the medium they work in at its highest quality?

Make the invitation, ask the question, say the hello. I met a couple of new reader friends (one of them a writer) because of an offhand comment one of them made after our kids' baseball practice about getting home to the book he's reading and I asked what it was.

I’m so grateful to announce that my debut poetry collection Fathom will be published next year as part of the Propel Disability Poetry series! This collection explores what it means to live in chronic pain, drowning in a sea of misdiagnosis and shipwrecked by medical sexism.

Reminder that the Supreme Court (like the Senate and Presidency) is an anti-democratic institution. It works as a stop gap only if and when it defends minority rights against majority oppression. But it can just as easily enforce minority oppression over majority rights, as the current court does.

Millions in the US celebrate today as Palm Sunday, the day of Jesus' 'triumphal' (a word ironic and not) entry into Jerusalem. The narrative is he rode an ass, not as conquerer, but the text's word is 'meek'. I pray for the day those who claim Jesus will bend their swords into ploughshares.

The Politics of Friendship by Jacques Derrida "When will we be ready for an experience of freedom and equality that is capable of respectfully experiencing that friendship, which would at last be just, just beyond the law, and measured up against its measurelessness?"

Reflecting on turning 42 today, I realized the knowledge, ability, and the balance tipping ever so slightly toward self assuredness from self doubt I have in my early forties was what I thought my early twenties were going to be like.

You know how kids sometimes cry when they make adults laugh? My kids constantly take and lose my phone charger for their various tablets and Nintendo Switches so, for my birthday today, my youngest was excited to give me a charger, something she picked out all by herself, before I even woke up.

The idea I used to get myself to write the last couple days: Rather than the usual big moments (birth, graduation, marriage, death, job, etc.), what are the small events that symbolically play the role those more obvious things. Which of those do I still need to write in this book.

"What am I interested in—plot?" —Marie Howe
Why the Novel Is Necessary but Sometimes Hard to Read

It happens in time. Years passed until the old woman, one snowy morning, realized she has never loved her daughter.

Or, Five years later she answered the door, and her suitor had returned almost unrecognizable from his journeys

But before you get to that part you have to learn the names you have to suffer not knowing anything about anyone

and slowly come to understand who each of them is, or who each of them imagines him or her self to be-

and then, because you are the reader, you must try to understand who you think each of them is because of who you believe yourself to be

in relation to their situation or your memory of one very much like it.

Oh it happens in time and time is hard to live through.

I can't read anything anymore, my dying brother said one afternoon, not even letters. Come on, Come on, he said, waving his hand in the air,

What am I interested in-plot?

You come upon the person the author put there as if you'd been pushed into a room and told to watch the dancing-

pushed into pantries, into basements, across moors, into the great drawing rooms of great cities, into the small cold cabin, or

to here, beside the small running river where a boy is weeping, and no one comes,

I see a number of writers, myself included, say something akin to "I wish [x] existed in the world" or "someone should make [y]", and it makes me think of this quote from Toni Morrison every time: "If you find a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it."
