If you* overlay the old Chen & Kipping (2017) planet mass-radius relationship with the new Dransfield et al. (2026) relationship, you can really see the impact of removing the inflated planets! *ChatGPT.
A plot showing two mass-radius relationships; the new one is below (predicts smaller radii) the old one significantly, especially around Saturn-mass objects.

Four laser beams project out from the VLT's UT4.  Some 90 km up in the atmosphere, they excite atoms of sodium, creating artificial stars for the telescope’s adaptive optics systems. But why four lasers and not just one? Find out: www.eso.org/public/images/potw1618a 🔭 #flashback

I'm working on some longer projects with the telescopes, but I had one finish up this week! This is the Hidden Galaxy, IC342. It's quite faint, and even more challenging with how bad the light pollution is here. This took nearly 64 hours of total exposure time over 9 nights to capture.

Discovery of radio emission from the exoplanet β Pictoris b arxiv.org/abs/2609.16720 Was about time. They use MeerKAT (South Africa) and show that the emission comes from the planet and not the star (see figure 2 below) They detect highly circularly polarized bursts and persistent emission.
Blue rings representing the radio emission, overlaping with 1 sigma towards the planet b, but being outside the star and planet c (lower right).

Aurora over Raisting Earth Station with Moon - From Simeon Schmauß (stim3on.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/2pQoiDV
What a crazy night, we went into it not expecting much since the solar storm was forecast for after sunrise in central Europe.
However, before the sun had even set, I got the alert that the first CME had impacted Earth, so the chances immediately looked a lot better. What then unfolded surpassed even our wildest expectations.
We ended up driving to this satellite ground station south of Ammersee in southern Bavaria and just when we arrived we spotted the first diffuse pillars north of us.
We experienced three waves of incredibly strong Aurora, especially for our rather Southern latitude. During the second wave we saw individual pulsating filaments dancing over our heads. What a breathtaking experience!

Many thanks to Christopher for accompanying me on this adventure, Max for being an all round great guy, and Sebastian who lent me his wide angle lenses that made these shots possible.
