This is the dodgiest and most-desperate thing I’ve seen in the bubble so far. Amazon selling their chips to a group of investors and leasing them back - an off balance sheet arrangement done in plain sight. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel here. And they’ll probably buy more!
Amazon is seeking to offload about $8bn of advanced Nvidia chips to external investors through a new vehicle aimed at strengthening its balance sheet, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Seattle-based cloud giant has held talks with investors in recent weeks to gauge interest in the deal, which would allow the company to spin off thousands of Grace Blackwell chips it is deploying in data centres across the US into a special-purpose vehicle.
Amazon will then lease the advanced AI chips back from the SPV, which would tap outside investors through debt issuance. By unloading the expensive semiconductors to investors, the company could adopt a more asset-light approach to its balance sheet.

Politics on this place is a bit Greenskyish. Riddle me this - if at the next election, One Nation have 9 Senators and 18 Reps seats. The ALP government need either the Libs, the Greens + 2, or a box of chocolates to pass legislation. Should PHON govern from the back bench? Why the Greens now? But!..

Why won't the government of the day work with us - a minor party with 5% of total Federal electoral representation - to implement our specific policy agenda as if we were the government? Probably because of the other 95%. Just guessing. This is going to go well then, I see.

Because the Greens aren't the government and don't have demographic representative weight substantial enough to be dictating government policy. If we go down this route, we end up like Israel - where small parties dominate government policy and direction. Doesn't that work well eh. Time to grow up..

Welcome David Shoebridge to power. Your first test is to cooperate to bring in the world's first, comprehensive AI and datacenter regulatory system, or squib it for your ego and literally leave it to the States and people like Crisafulli and whatever dross the Tasmanian cat last dragged in. <clink>

The greatest secret in finance is that nobody knows what they’re investing in and another is that a lot of the “very smart people” with “lots of data” base their powerful “financial models” based on extremely simplistic scenarios, many of them as obvious as “growth continues as it always has”

It really doesn't make sense to attribute those job losses to AI-the-technology, because if that were the case we'd be observing AI outputs displacing conventional entertainment products, and they're clearly not. Rather, the impact of AI is that AI-the-business is crowding out other investment.

I've never got the whole David Pocock thing. I've never once seen him in any interview where he was able to answer a question intelligently that wasn't on his very specific talking points list. Is it his vibe, his marketing, his choice of talking points? I just don't get it.

The actual solution is that the US needs to fuck off out of the middle east yesterday, and charge Israel for the bill. The US broke it, they have neither the capability nor capacity to fix it. The longer it takes them to leave, the more people will die from energy insecurity and push costs higher.

The Greens splitting on the Koala park is an example of an increasigly regular part of the ideological environmental furniture. Carbon offsets are incompetent rubbish. But you could get a gigantic sanctuary. And while fossil fuel removal isn't remotely influenced by this legislation, it's symbolic.

I saw an interesting piece of industry analysis today that solar + battery firming in Australia (mostly because of the massive increases in battery capability with decreasing costs, and the forecast trajectory on both) means it might make new wind proposals redundant by 2032 under every scenario

Here's a climate integrity idea - anyone proposing a gas tax to fund recurrent expenditure, giving the Federal budget a fossil fuel addiction, should be fed into the nearest coal furnace. Any gas tax must be capital expenditure for the energy transition, not Norway climate recalcitrance
