There’s no way these companies could have survived adding the cost of *paying* for the bulk of their training data. They’re already losing more money than has ever been lost. Fair market value for what they copied would have killed this bullshit at the start.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

It’s not just one billionaire. It’s a full-blown cult of billionaires who believe dictatorship should replace democracy—and that technology (crypto and AI) will make this inevitable. They say it loud. Some guy just wrote a book about it (That guy is me!) www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Ne...

This is a good person, totally decent. Just also totally unaware that their media diet (and thus their brain) has been completely cooked to where they're amplifying media by fucking Nazis and passing it along as if that's normal. Sometimes I despair about how we return from this.

Essentially, tech companies are promising it's worth pouring cash into it because it will eventually make investors rich beyond their wildest dreams. So they're raking in billions from people who are *already* rich beyond their wildest dreams in order to shovel it into a furnace.

Do their actions merit impeachment? Yes. Many times over. Would impeachment weaken them, and reduce their ability to abuse power? Yes. At minimum by taking up time and attention. Would it stop valuable lawmaking from happening in Congress? No. And the White House is breaking laws. So... why not?

If you let your dog off its leash and it bites someone, you face criminal penalties and the dog may be put down as a danger to the public. These companies, by their own admission, are letting their hacking bots run free with internet access. It’s the same damn thing.

I think the role of a very toxic VC culture needs to be considered here. Coke-fueled parties with sex workers as a model for how you unwind from a stressful job isn’t a great example to set. It’s been part of the finance culture for decades (forever?).

Well let’s see how letting ad companies set privacy law went for us? Or all the great policy pushed by profit health care providers? Hollywood and copyright law? At some point we need to stop letting industry insiders write laws.
