A huge thank you to all SAS doctors - those who have paved the way, inspired others, advocated for recognition and fair contracts, and stepped forward to lead, as well as the many who make an invaluable contribution through their everyday work. 🧵 #SASWeek26

Great to see this data that supports what many are seeing locally. SAS doctors should not be held back when their contract clearly structures progression. Trusts are missing a trick with workforce resourcing by not promoting autonomous doctors to Specialist roles #SASbyChoice #NHS #medicine

The action & preparation must start immediately. If not, any plans will be meaningless & leave UK nations no better prepared than they were in 2020. As a first step, governments must quantify current staffing & other existing deficits that both anaesthesia & intensive care are currently facing (4/5)

It is our view that for future plans to be fit for purpose, governments must look at staffing, beds, & equipment – and how levels can be improved – right now. Given the lead in time to train intensivists & anaesthetists, these plans cannot be created and left in a drawer for the next pandemic (3/5)
