Indeed - one of these (“I’m tired”) is frankly dangerously ambiguous, and should not be taken as anything without a definitive yes/no directly appended to it. (Cashing in some ⭐️🏳️‍🌈 privilege here)

Man, guess we got so distracted by winning in Iran that we let a little data breach happen and so I get a nice letter from the DoD telling me that they’re ensuring my data is safe and…oh wait, no, just offering a year of contracted credit monitoring Who knew DOGEing the smart people was a bad thing

Num. 21:6. The NIV have ‘venomous;’ the KJV and its descendants have ‘fiery’.

I actually borrowed it from one of the pro-reordering theorists of the 1990s, who was obsessed with the whole idea of the ‘traveling church.’ This caused no end of mischief when he got his hands on our Cathedral here in Philadelphia and turned it into a barn.

There’s a difference between a ‘traveling’ Eucharist and a ‘gathered’ one, though, no?

I will say, as someone whose wardrobe is sort of intentionally shabby, that I appreciate vesting because it anonymizes me and removes all of that from consideration.

I’m old enough to remember this style of trouser straining at the waists of the beer-gutted men of my grandfather’s generation, which has probably poisoned the well irreparably.

I heartily agree, having been radicalized on this point to some extent by a friend my age joining the First Troop. Of course, it doesn’t help that TEC draws disproportionately from the PMC, and many of its members benefited from the deferment system.

Honestly just driving up 17 (once you’re past Sloatsburg) is its own sidequest generator. You’ll be a bit too far south for Olana, but that’s well worth visiting too.

Apparently, this mistranslation slithered into the NRSV; the editors of the NRSVUE didn’t see any particular need for biological accuracy.

More irreverently, the NRSVue translated the snakes as being poisonous, not venomous - in other words, deadly if you lick them, not deadly if they bite you. The reason the bronze serpent worked was because it distracted the israelites from their serpent-licking hobby.

The Randstad in particular is essentially flat, which probably also helps - I’ve seen competent-looking cyclists taken out by relatively shallow hills, tree roots, etc.

Some people are insisting that choosing to ride a bike without a helmet only affects you so it’s nobody’s business and let me tell you as a woman helping care for her quadriplegic father who broke his neck in a fall: Shut the fuck up and wear the helmet, you squalling, selfish children.

It may stem from the initial online presence decades ago, which in turn was probably due to people being of the occupation, age, and wealth that they were early digital adopters. Project Canterbury et al probably also contributed to this.

Ours is small, but we’re oriented, we have a deep chancel, and there are quite a few young children in the parish - so it is very helpful there.

An interesting compromise may be to ring the second tower bell 3x at the Sanctus, 1x before the Words of Institution, 3x at each Elevation, and 1x before the Distribution. This is especially helpful to those who may be nearby but unable to be in the Church.

This is the key: sacring-bells exist for circumstances in which the action may not be clearly visible or audible in the church - a deep chancel, a multilingual congregation, or the absence/impairment of a sound system may be valid reasons. They also help to cover the sound of personal devotions.

Corvids hang upside down hanging on to a branch ornithologists view this acrobatic behaviour as a relaxed way for the intelligent corvids to test their balance, strength, and coordination. This acrobatic behaviour builds muscle, and improves agility which they use for reaching for food.

Please never ever feed communion to birds! Even if your theology somehow allows it, human bread is bad for birds! Don’t give bread to birds at all actually! Wildlife has their own diet which needs to be respected as much as their environment does. ⚓️

It really is a hidden gem! Definitely worth a pilgrimage. I believe they use it for the early service in the warm season; a larger church (with offices, hall, etc) was built nearby in the 1960s when the parish was planted.

If I was a young person being told that the best our economic system can ever offer me is working longer and longer hours to live with more and more roommates and eat worse and worse food, I might start getting this crazy idea that we need a new economic system.

Key West has a lighthouse, but it’s not nearly as gay as Chicago’s.
The pierhead light at Osterman Beach, a two-level red-oxide structure surmounted by a light, with a utility shed at the base, upon a concrete pier painted rainbow colors.
