🧪We found that stress can have different effects on learning depending on the estrous cycle (rodent equivalent of the menstrual cycle)! BUT only if it’s a single stress. Repeated stressful experiences were not estrous dependent. (1/3) #brains #stress #sexdifferences

This is not good. Organ on a chip models are NOT where they need to be in order to for scientists to test things prior to human clinical trials. This has been a concern for a while. 🧵

Something about the transition from grad student to professor feels a lot like the transition from high school senior to college freshman. Like I’m simultaneously growing up and becoming a baby again. #academia #gradschool

I stg the writers of Lost think every woman is always pregnant at all times🙄 (and I say woman instead of person with a uterus because the show is from the early 2000’s and therefore painfully cis/het normative)

Learned the importance of gauge swatches the hard way… been working on this shawl for 3 months, thought it looked a bit small but there’s also a big lace portion so I hoped blocking would fix it… ended up with a child size shawl but it also kinda looks like a cape? #knitsky 1/2

Hey, fellow adhd folks, may I humbly recommend going to a cattle auction. Went to my first one today and it was a perfect level of stimulation. There was so much going on, I felt like I was in a sensory deprivation tank. I think that was the first time my mind has truly been empty, it was meditative

When I was in highschool, I called periods dots because I was terrified to even say the word. Now I just sent my advisor a thesis introduction that said “menses”, “menstruation”, “vaginal canal”, and “uterine lining” a total of 36 times. That’s growth (and the normalization of normal things)👏👏👏

Extremely disappointed that when I googled “human hormonal cycles” the only thing that came up was the menstrual cycle. Did you know that humans (which includes those born with a penis) experience a lot of hormonal cycles that can influence our behavior? Here’s a thread of some I think are neat🧪

After 24 hours on his feet, Cory Booker is defending the scientific research establishment of this country - calling out an experience like the one that drives me and SO MANY of my fellow scientists to do the work we do - that maybe we can do for others what we couldn't for our own loved ones.

Not to get too spiritual on main, but sometimes when you look at all the things that brought you to where you are, doesn’t it just feel like a clear path? Like this definitely isn’t the path I meant to take, but I can see how all the steps I took brought me here

I think a big part of the strategy for those of us who are white and citizens is to get in the way and get loud. Local governments try to pass harmful policies? Get in the way. Local schools try to get rid of DEI staff? Get loud. And when ICE tries to abduct someone? GET IN THE WAY AND GET LOUD.
