This is not good. Organ on a chip models are NOT where they need to be in order to for scientists to test things prior to human clinical trials. This has been a concern for a while. 🧵

Honestly, with the speed this fascist regime is proceeding, I'd more likely assume here that they meant they will be skipping animal trials entirely and will henceforth just go directly to trying out experimental drugs on all the people held without due process in their concentration camps.

If a body puts in for a grant to do animal testing and they cannot show any effort to use the 3Rs and show data that supports the next logical step for in-vivo discovery progression then I am for it. Lucky to be retired from biotech that did extensive in-vitro work before justifying in-vivo

While advanced in vitro models have their place, we agree they can't recapitulate all the complex interactions of a body. AND, with increasing complexity comes exorbitant time and cost. Such changes will limit drug discovery and eventually result in less ethical, more dangerous clinical trials.

So in other words, they’re not going to perform the toxicology studies that determine the dose at which a brand new drug becomes harmful and fatal in living beings - before giving new drugs to people.
