I wish more novels came with a "works referenced" page. Like, I get so deep into research, read 20+ books to inform this thing I'm *totally making up*, and I just want to know what OTHER people's weird rabbit holes look like. (ew, but true!)

I've used a paid WordPress site w custom theme, Bluehost hosting, & Namecheap domain for a decade+ with minimal maintenance ($230ish total?). WP has gotten more blocks-based/user-friendly. Your site's quite nice, so not sure how hard/easy it'd be to reproduce, but mine's been v set-it-and-forget-it!

y'all read any new(ish) books lately that blew your minds? I'm talking lush, ambitious sentences, big ideas? I have a couple of 15-hour flights bookending an *actual trip away from my desk*, and I intend to read published books instead of things I'm working on. Would welcome any recs!

I don't get embarrassed very easily but it always feels a bit strange to submit to literary journals. It's like, "Hey I don't know you but here's all my baggage, I'm sending it to you directly, and also here's a poem about snails for some reason."

So many of my brainstorm/structure notes like “is this anything?” and “what do we have here? What was I thinking? You were showing off and lost the plot”

Look, I like silence as much as the next writer, but I'm calling for a temporary moratorium on the words "quiet" and "quietly"

Matt, just, how? My first drafts are somehow both so full of nonsense AND extremely short. I'm simply constitutionally incapable of putting any of the good stuff into the first draft, and you're over here just all in from day one.

I have no memory of this hilarious-sounding burger, but I grew up in the KY/southern Illinois test market, and they truly threw some weird stuff our way (Meatloaf at McDiner, anyone?)

Oh, and Numotion is the company he bought the primary chair through, and they handle things like replacing the seat, servicing tires and axels, etc. I believe they’re national, and they’ve been good with Medicare and helping facilitate approvals, etc.

My dad uses a Permobil chair, and the service team has been solid. Marc’s Mobility is a great resource for research, reviews, videos, etc. His physical therapist was most helpful in identifying features he needed and helping get the right prescription, so I’d highly recommend connecting with one!

Wile E. Coyote, despaired, takes a bucket of paint and a brush and paints a beautiful two-bedroom house on a mountainside. He paints a beautiful coyote wife in the window, and two adorable coyote kids running around in the yard. He tries to enter this new coyote life, but it is inaccessible to him

It’s astonishing & even finding home care is shockingly difficult. My mom, a retired nurse, is spending her retirement caring for my dad. Could afford more help but can’t find it in rural Kentucky; I’ve got a few years to figure out how to get them more help & the best idea I’ve got so far is moving

Interestingly, the typeface used for the words "We Came In Peace For All Mankind," was Futura. It's an iconic geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner in 1927. Honestly, a masterpiece typeface. Renner wanted to modernize typography by moving away from the heritage of calligraphy 1/2

For anyone shopping around, my site is a Wordpress build hosted through Bluehost, and it’s only $205 annually. My domain’s another $20ish through Namecheap. Been ages since I’ve shopped around but can vouch that this setup is simple enough I’ve been managing it myself for nigh on a decade.

I love this journal, and I love how Maureen's piece blends the sensory with the digital and finds the improbable thread between them. A brief, aching piece fully worth the read!

Just thinking this morning about how many women are forced to serve up the most intimate and horrible moments of their pasts because people blast through a veritable thicket of red flags in support of a political candidate, and in retaliation, they are smeared and harassed.

Sentences built like IKEA furniture. No craftsmanship. Pieces made of particleboard. Slot A with peg A, following instructions with the sense that there’s only ever one “right” way to do things. Cheap materials.
