I’ve only cried [distress] three times due to academia. Twice as a graduate student, because of other people. But for the first time, last night, I cried as an assistant professor, because of myself. 😎

I was totally baffled by this—I thought maybe I missed something. Because why would she go to police if she said it was all consensual? It turns out the DA was playing language games: Doe described what happened to her, and *prosecutors* made a legal determination that what happened wasn’t a crime.

9/11 was an unspeakable tragedy. Many lives were lost on that day. Later, many first responders and survivors lost their lives from cancer, destitute. And many, many more innocent Afghans and Iraqis lost their lives in the aftermath. We should not selectively remember all the innocent lives lost.

Highlights
• Remote and hybrid work persist, but conditions for their long-term sustainability remain unclear.
• We shift focus from structures to how employees evaluate and trade off job attributes.
• A conjoint study shows acceptance depends on bundles of features, not single attributes.
• Work location and salary act as key anchors shaping employee preferences.
• Sustainability emerges from compensatory trade-offs aligned with employees’ priorities.Abstract
Remote and hybrid work have become enduring features of digitally mediated organizations, yet questions remain about the conditions under which such arrangements can be sustained over time. Prior research on remote work sustainability emphasizes structural and technological enablers, often assuming that flexibility, compensation, or organizational support translates directly into employee acceptance. This study extends that literature by adopting a preference-based perspective. We conceptualize sustainability as grounded in how employees evaluate and trade off multiple, interdependent job attributes. Drawing on a choice-based conjoint experiment with 627 full-time U.S. workers, we examine how employees assess bundled features related to work location, salary, monitoring, scheduling, expense reimbursement, and organizational support. The findings indicate that employee acceptance is shaped less by isolated job attributes than by how these features are configured in relation to employees’ prioritized needs, with the degree of remote work and salary serving as central reference dimensions. By foregrounding employee evaluative logic and compensatory trade-offs, this study clarifies the micro-level conditions under which remote and hybrid work arrangements are likely to be accepted and sustained.

ICYMI my solo article on MENA identity. When MENA Americans aren’t given a “MENA” option on forms, they answer identity-related questions on politics more strongly (eg higher end of the scale) than if“MENA” had been added. Having the group label or not changes the average response!

Reading books is so profound because it denies you the ability to speak when confronted with an idea. You must listen. It isn't a conversation. Sometimes it shouldn't be a conversation.
Sometimes we should just listen.

How about this: if you didn’t post anything when the Iranian regime killed tens of thousands of Iranians protesting for freedom in the streets, maybe you should refrain on commenting on Iran today esp if your comment is “concern for Iranians.” Honestly, it makes you look cynical and heartless.

Iranians were rising up and the regime killed thousands upon thousands of people. Regular people don’t have the arms to revolt against a regime like Iran. Not saying the US doesn’t have its own agenda, but the Iranian people have shown they don’t want the regime. Shouldnt we listen to them?
