i'm glad that Rayearth (2026) is keeping the Rayearth anime and manga tradition of flashing a glamour shot of Emraude at our faces every 5 minutes lest we forget that she is miserable out there and we gotta save her.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

A good fresh Star Trek take on those fake isekai title jokes

A tumblr screenshot showing a post and two reblog responses, reading:
1. "star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you'd explain your situation and they'd be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system's icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home"
2. "I'm from a universe where your world is all a work of fiction." Benjamin Sisko, nodding. "That happened to me once."
3. "I Got Isekaid Into The Star Trek Universe And They Quickly Understood What Was Happening"

I really do think tech crossed a line at some point between "helping you do the things you want to do" on the one hand, and "helping you do the things tech wants you to do" on the other. At this point, we're all contorting ourselves to live how the tech industry thinks we should be living.

saw some tweet that basically said "when someone asked me what my favorite bird is, i panicked and said rotisserie chicken" now in my head i just see Nie Mingjue getting asked that question, realizing he knows A-Sang's favorite bird but not his own, straight up just saying "rotisserie chicken".

inject this into my veins this is a man whos been mad about modern isekai and its departure from shoujo for the past 30yrs. i genuinely hope the reboot of mkr gives us the return to shoujo isekai

While “isekai” stories have become increasingly popular in the last decade, even in the '90s, there were many stories where female protagonists get transported to a magical world. What do you think makes Magic Knight Rayearth different from modern isekai? What makes these female-led stories interesting for modern audiences?

MIURA: The biggest difference is that Magic Knight Rayearth is a story about growth and the sacrifices that come with it, rather than one about cheat abilities.

In many modern isekai series, protagonists either begin with—or quickly obtain— cheat abilities that allow them to effortlessly overwhelm their opponents. Much of the appeal lies in the wish-fulfillment of watching an unstoppable hero dominate every battle.

By contrast, Hikaru, Umi, and Fū are simply three ordinary junior high school girls who are suddenly summoned to the isekai (fantasy) world of Cefiro. They take up swords, suffer injuries, shed tears, and gradually awaken both their magical powers and inner strength as they overcome their fears and insecurities. This journey of personal growth is one of the defining charms of 1990s isekai fantasy.
Even today, many stories aimed at female audiences center on romance. In the first arc of Magic Knight Rayearth, however, what drives Hikaru, Umi, and Fū is not romantic feelings for boys, but the powerful bond they share and their promise to make it back to Tokyo together. Their genuine sisterhood—built on mutual respect and supporting one another through their weaknesses—is something I believe modern audiences who appreciate independent relationships can deeply relate to.
In the latter half of the story, they don't simply carry out the mission they've been given. They begin questioning what principles should govern this world and ultimately make the choice that will determine its fate. Rather than waiting for someone else to save them, they take control of their own destiny.... alt continued

I believe this image of strong women choosing their own path embodies exactly the kind of empowerment that resonates with today's anime fans
