Burnham could change tax relief on pension contributions for his projects. Gross tax relief in 2024-2025 was £83.9bn. 71% went to 7.7m additional & higher rate taxpayers. 29% to 30.4m basic rate taxpayers. Giving relief to all at 20% leaves £14.5bn spare for social care. But equality/equity?

Those calling for state pension cut are silent on their tax perks. Gross tax relief on pension contributions £83.9bn. 14% went to 1.1m additional rate tax payers. 57% to 6.6m higher rate (40%) payers. 29% went to 30.4m basic rate (20%) payers. Equalizing it at 20% for all leaves £14.5bn spare.

I'm still trying to get my head around the 🇬🇧 BBC refusing to bid 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 to broadcast the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, losing to TNT, and then £10m to get the rights to the Birmingham athletics. Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death. In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children. Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
