Russian public sector employees forced to report on Putin's birthday greetings

Employees of Russian public sector organizations and activists from pro-government movements were required to congratulate President Vladimir Putin on his birthday and report on meeting birthday greeting targets. An internal working document, allegedly reporting on the events, was published by the Telegram channel "Dozor v Volgograd." According to the table, various types of greetings were required to be published by, for example, employees of the Volgograd Region Youth Policy Committee, the Sozvezdie youth center, members of the "Volunteer-Medics" movement, university students , and others. Formats included video greetings, flash mobs, and social media posts.

Whoa. @haleaziz.bsky.social has the scoop on a truly insane plan to use some military training ships for deportations, with people presumably shackled or locked in cells for days at a time as they transit to Central and South America. Each journey would be staggeringly expensive — and dangerous.

One ought not to pay any attention to Hitler’s recent line of talk about being the friend of the poor man, the enemy of plutocracy, etc etc. Hitler’s real self is in Mein Kampf, and in his actions. He has never persecuted the rich, except when they were Jews or when they tried actively to oppose him. He stands for a centralised economy which robs the capitalist of most of his power but leaves the structure of society much as before. The State controls industry, but there are still rich and poor, masters and men. Therefore, as against genuine Socialism, the moneyed class have always been on his side. This was crystal clear at the time of the Spanish civil war, and clear again at the time when France surrendered. Hitler’s puppet government are not working men, but a gang of bankers, gaga generals and corrupt right-wing politicians.

Pew's poll is particularly notable because of its massive sample size; an N of just over 5,000 survey respondents. One particularly interesting finding on immigration is that the issue has slightly lost salience for Republicans and gained significant salience for Democrats since the 2022 midterms.
Table: Compared with 2022, Republican and Democratic voters priorities in 2026 have shifted in different directions on many issues, including the economy.

On immigration, 76% of Republican Registered Voters (RVs) in 2022 rated the issue as "very important for their vote for Congress." That has now dropped to 72% in 2026. By contrast, it was at 36% for Democrats in 2022, and is now up to 53%, a net 17 percent increase.

The biggest issue, however, continues to be the economy. 92% of Republicans rated the economy as important in 2022, but that's now dropped to 82%. The next highest issue for Republicans is immigration at 72%, followed by the future of democracy at 69%, then violent crime at 64%.

For Democrats, 65% rated the economy as very important in 2022, and that's now 88%, the highest issue, beating out the future of democracy (85%), healthcare (82%), and education (74%).
