Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing. They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.

“The administration has largely used Title IX to open dozens of investigations aimed at removing protections for transgender students, blocking transgender athletes from participating on female sports teams and eliminating gender-neutral bathrooms from schools.” But not sexual assault.

Cornell Case Highlights Drop in Resolved Sexual Assault Cases Under Trump (Gift Article)
The administration has shifted its enforcement of a civil rights law from allegations of sexual misconduct to issues like blocking protections for transgender students.

If California massively increased its housing supply, we could help move the 123,974 people who sleep on the street (not a typo) indoors -- reducing one of the cudgels that the Right uses against our state.

I promise you, there are Democrats in congress right now who still believe it is possible to go back to before Trump. It is not. Republicans are spending Trump’s term as Vought intended. They are intentionally breaking government in as many places as they can to make going back impossible.

OpenAI's chatbot isn't just imitating the magazine's style. It's also falsely attributing AI-generated images to real artists.

I want to take a moment to let people know that this is not super new tech. It has existed for years, but more notably in countries that design urban infrastructure to enable people of all ages and abilities, not just the car drivers.

Haven't seen this get much attention here: Turkey's government has massively escalated a push against visible queer life and LGBT+ advocacy over the last month. Hundreds of social media accounts and websites recently blocked in the country, hundreds arrested from prominent orgs and news outlets.

The Loop is the 5th densest community area, so it should be as filled with businesses as Albany Park & Uptown. Only instead of side streets there are office building entrances, plazas, & those garages with no ground floor uses.

It’s just a transition period, as leases change new tenants that are more aligned with the change in demographics will take over the spots of businesses that do not appeal to a wider amount of the market. The new housing in the loop was around the periphery so central loop conversions will help.

That also gets into the issue with MSA vs CSA, & both being county based. An agglomeration of suburbs (like DFW) does not a city make. LA MSA at least has a lot of dense suburbs that with good transit could evolve into less car dependent areas. If they want to call themselves the Second Metro.

Jacob E. Peters @archijake.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Especially since there are many literal cities that are only 1500 people. The post was to push back on people who claim Chicago is no longer the second city because LA has surpassed in population, or because Houston will someday.

Only way to do it is to include the literal hills & not downtown, which just isn’t fair IMHO.

Rosemont is much less dense than most of LA, as it has a ton of office space but very little residential.

One of the riverwalks east of Damen, or via the California bridge until the city gets serious about a protected north/south route over the canal on Damen or the “boulevard” portion of Western.

Similar to how Oktoberfest & Maifest would be improved by having a second beer tent at the parking lot across from Old Town along with a longer pedestrian closure along Lincoln paired w/ programming at The Davis (German & Oktoberfest themed movies) & Old Town (German music classes & folk concerts).

It’s not even 20 miles if you’re going to the Sanitary & Ship Canal. Which technically starts west of Ashland*. *The new water route started at Damen, parallel to the 2 old streams that ran through marshland & were separated by the continental divide (roughly at Sacramento).
Map of old Chicago Portage routes around the unnavigable streams that nearly touched at the continental divide. The historic Chicago street & canal grid is a grey scale underlay of the map.

Ironically you cannot do the reverse. You cannot get a Chicago sized area of Los Angeles that has less population than Chicago (I have tried), because no part of LA is as disinvested & depopulated as parts of Chicago. The difference is that many Chicago suburbs are denser than parts of LA.

This is why Chicago is the true second city. The same trick can be done to make Chicago more populous than LA with a similar land area.

A block from a Metra station is a great place for multi-family. I get your sentiment, but it is wildly misplaced here. The solution is make both Grand & Cicero safer, not questioning new housing near transit.

Because it's buried at the bottom of the article and CNN is presenting it in a misleading way: before people worry, the "unknown" part is how the worker was exposed, the pathogen is good old fashioned Y. pestis which we understand extremely well and can treat just fine if caught early
