I actually listened to the summary of @florencesn.bsky.social and mine's #chi2026 paper today and it is essentially 100% wrong in everything it says about the paper. I have to assume no-one at ACM used or tested this at any point. Good luck to anyone actually using these.

That is so cool. So they are leaving this permanent cultural footprint by creatively hacking their own digital identities which actually organically brings us to Elden Ring.
Guest:
Right the digital archaeology paper.
Host:
Yeah. So to clarify for listeners are we treating glowing text on a screen or like these digital bloodstains exactly like actual ancient cave paintings. Like what does a digital bloodstain actually teach us about human culture.
Guest:
Well researchers treated the game as a literal archaeological site. They cataloged in game messages and bloodstains which are basically replayable holograms of another real players final moments specifically around the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.
Host:
That was right before the big DLC expansion dropped right.
Guest:
Exactly. And they found that these arent just static features. The fluctuating message appraisals and the highly contextual gestures they capture the collective excitement and anticipation of the community.
Host:
So it proves that these games are dynamic living archaeological sites.

Viking-age gaming board (replica), from Ballinderry, Ireland. For the Viking war game ‘Hnefatafl’, the object of which is to drive the King piece into one of the corners. This replica at Roskilde Viking Ship Museum, Denmark. Original at National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a wooden replica of the Viking-age Balinderry gaming board. The original board would have been used for the Viking war game ‘Hnefatafl’, a game of strategy, the object of which is to drive the King piece into one of the corners.

The original gaming board is made of dark yew wood dated tenth century. The board is roughly square in shape with forty-nine holes laid out in seven rows of seven holes for holding pegged game pieces. There are five light wood pegs and five dark wood pegs randomly placed in holes around the board. The central hole is marked with an incised double circle and the four corner holes are marked with incised circular arcs. At two opposite ends of the board (top and bottom in my photo) there are projecting carved stylized human heads, probably handles. The board has a decorative border with eight panels of carved interlace decoration. It was found in 1932 during excavations at Ballinderry Crannog, County Westmeath. Now on display at Dublin Museum.

Archaeologist Carole Crumley talking about heterarchies, if you are looking to cite someone in addition to Mark Fisher wrt capitalist realism. The ability to dream outside of hierarchies and the state should be taught by every archaeologist. GOOD MORNING
“the inability even to think of power wielded and maintained in the absence of hierarchy implies an alarming lack of both imagination and powers of observation”

Further to the EAA saga and the actions of its leadership...Zena is the editor of the Association's journal, and we now how much hard and unappreciated work that entails. She was attacked in the meeting of 9.1.206, and yet the people in charge seem to want to withhold the evidence. Enough is enough.

Yesterday I resigned from the EAA Appeals & Anti-Harassment Committee (AAHC) after I was targetted in what I believe was an attempt to disprupt & undermine the AAHC. Be assured, AAHC are v much committed to making EAA a safe space, despite the restrictions imposed on them by the existing statutes. 🏺

Following yesterday's EAA Special Meeting, I have submitted a complaint to the EAA Appeal and Anti-Harassment Committee. I post it here, with names redacted, for any members who were not present. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with messages of solidarity and support 🙏💓🙏
In spite of the Safe Space Policy being clearly stated at the beginning of the meeting, Prof. XXXXX targeted me by name, calling for my resignation from my position as Editor of the society's journal. Furthermore, his misuse of my title, referring to me as "Miss Kamash", felt deliberately demeaning. This intimidating behaviour explicitly contravenes the EAA Safe Space Policy. Although he was muted, for which I was grateful, I experienced a panic attack following his comments and did not feel safe to speak for the remainder of the meeting. This was further compounded by not only Prof. XXXXX being allowed to remain in the online meeting, but also being invited to take the floor again after the break. This gives me strong concerns about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy.

On a broader point about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy, I also note that members whose position aligned with that of Concerned EAA were repeatedly and persistently accused of anti-Semitism throughout the meeting. This is a serious accusation that should not be levelled without due care and evidentiary support. Its use as a blanket accusation seems to have been designed with the explicit aim of silencing and intimidating members aligned with Concerned EAA, which again contravenes the Safe Space Policy and should have been dealt with more robustly during the meeting.
