Howard V. Brown did a lot of great 1930s pulp sci-fi magazine covers. Nevertheless, his June 1924 cover to "Scientific American" might be my favorite work of his, despite not actually being science fiction. I love the nonchalant surrealism.

Two guys carefully paint a scene of a harbor town surrounded by mountains - a scene which they seem to be existing inside, as giants.

Dame Yvette
Proud warrior of the Black Crown Kingdom

She has large imposing stature, many saying she is like an unstoppable force of nature in the battlefield. Jet black hair, and blue skin (as most native to Black Crown). Yellow tinted eyes that stand out among the dark snowy lands, and a thunder bolt shaped scar running under her right eye.

Despite her size and armor: her strikes land swift and strong.
Like many from Black Crown: she was raised in harsh weather and conditions, it is a society that runs on war and industry after all. Her father: Barlas the Butcher, made sure that he would raise a mountain of a child.
Her personality is solemn. A strong and proud warrior, along with being loyal to those few she sees as friends.
Despite the stoic demeanor there is softer and gentle side she keeps tucked. A bit Shakespearean and complex. Not many see this side of course as she keeps a ton of it to herself.

She doesn’t use magic: she solely relies on her strength and iron will. Like many of her kind she can tap into an inner berserk, capable of walking off even the grievous of wounds as she cuts down those who dare come her path. Like her father she uses a black axe which is made of the dark like-obsidian that many armors, weaponry and other tools used among Black Crown.

She now embarks on a journey. What this journey is still unknown. What’s even more curious is that it’s with an elf she goes on this journey with.

Elves have been at war with Black Crown for hundreds of years…….

Aevae of Antares
(Pronounced "Abby" for her name)
A Stardust elf with a fiery spirit. She is capable of casting fire magic, along with her blade being able to also cast said fire to enhance its qualities.
She is a gentle and kind soul, but don't let that hide the fact that she is daughter of Burning Star Adelaide, so her fighting skills and tactics in magic are quite formidable.
She normally wears star woven cloak when out in the snowy lands, adorn with spiked shoulder pauldron.
Underneath she wears a white tunic, showing off her nimble frame.
She has fiery orange hair, accompanied by a black star that floats among her head (like many other elves) showing her cosmic connection.
White bright skin like snow, and signature pointy elf ears that move extinctively and react to her emotions and environment.
Overall a small thin frame.

Aevae is a bit of a bleeding heart.
Despite this she has good intentions.

Many might see her as a bit snooty, and generous. Really she is a kind individual curious of the world and really tries to see equality among others. You can say she has a love for life and the beauty that can bring once the barriers are moved aside. She’s quick to learn and rather a good tactician on top of that.
As mentioned: she’s not one for violence, but if need be she sure is good at standing her ground and sending a message if she needs too. It’s the warrior blood and bravery that runs through her, as most elves.

Lately she has seemed to have a Black Crown Dame join her on this journey through the lands, an odd sight indeed……

Page 1: A man is walking home, smoking a cigarette, being quietly trailed by a UFO above him. As he enters his apartment, two aliens watch from inside the ship. Alien 1, who has a large head, says, “that’s him. Let’s move.”

Page 2: The man walks upstairs as the aliens watch from the entrance of the building. The man enters his apartment and greets his little dog. Suddenly there is a knock at the door.

Page 3: he peers through his peephole, and sees the two aliens standing in the hallway. Alien 1 is holding a briefcase. From behind him, the voice of alien one: “don’t scream.”

Page 4: The aliens are seated across the room on the man’s couch. Sadie is in her bed next to them. Alien 1 says, “you’re not in any danger. Have a seat.” The man looks at his dog and thinks, “sadie is unusually calm.” Alien 1: don’t scream, or it’s a problem.
