Then there's the pipeline problem. A years-long dispute between #Baghdad and the #KRG over the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline left Iraq with almost no viable alternative export route. Political fudges, temporary agreements, unresolved differences, the infrastructure simply wasn't there.

#Iraq earns 90% of its revenues from oil. When the Strait closed, the government could still cover expenditures for March–May, oil revenues arrive 2–3 months after export. But beyond that? Domestic borrowing, accumulating arrears, and a budget already under strain before the crisis hit.
