The U.S. doesn’t produce a drop. Private interests in the U.S. produce oil. And when the price goes up, it’s those private interests that profit. He could have pushed renewable energy, solar, wind, hydro and EVs to complete the transition into energy independence but instead we are hostage to oil.

It seems that most politicians are sponsored by groups like AIPAC and the Heritage Foundation, so these politicians are going to serve the sponsor, and not the citizens. A democracy WILL NOT WORK unless these sponsorships are limited and made public, IF that is possible.
