I keep seeing this Semafor graph that seems to show the Trump administration’s effect on international visits is comparable to the pandemic. My first thought was “that can’t be true” and indeed it is not. This is monthly data. We only have to Jun/Aug 2026. The lines are over-fitted to the months.
Semafor graph with catastrophic drops.

Another reminder that toddlers are hilarious: 3: when I grow up I wanna be a parent Me: oh yeah? That’s nice. Do you want to have kids? 3: no!!! I want to have you. I want to be like you. Me: aww what do you like about that? 3: I like your bracelets. Yeah. And necklaces.

Today, 3 had a massive tantrum because her leggings don’t have pockets and then she realized that none of her pants have pockets except the jeans she doesn’t like. And - yeah. A toddler can grasp what the entire fashion industry seems to miss about women’s and girls’ fashion.

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.
