This guy really is pushing harder now. The expressions of fascism, lawlessness and tyranny are blatant and vituperative. Increasingly, he is telling all of us what to expect. We should prepare. Resistance could become more and more difficult.

I think it's important to acknowledge that we live in a full-fledged fascist state now. Not pseudo-fascist, not quasi-fascist, not neo-fascist... Just fascist. (Well, maybe christofascist.)

“As President, it is my job to ensure the laws are faithfully executed, including by firing subordinates who cannot be trusted to tell the truth and follow the law,” Trump wrote in reference to Lisa Cook. I guess that means Trump, a subordinate of the American people, should be fired.

“One of the main reactions to that (U.N.) report (on the Gaza genocide) was paying tribute to me for my courage. But why would you need courage to speak the truth? You interpret the law and you look at all the facts.” --Navi Pillay

This is Nazi rhetoric, full stop. It's not only a call to instigate a race war in the United States, but it's reminiscent of historic European justifications used to incite pogroms against Jews. People who say things like this are incredibly dangerous, as there is nothing they won't eventually do.

Don’t know about you, but I find it fascinating that Trump openly declares his crimes: “Hey everybody, I just did this illegal thing!” I mean, why not? The worst that might happen is a judge orders him to stop (an order Trump can simply ignore). All the lying is just icing on the cake. 1/2

Genocide and ethnic cleansing as an international crime can be tricky to confirm. One needs clear evidence of intent, for one thing. Well, see above. And this one of many such examples of statements by high-level Israeli officials expressing intent regarding Gaza, the West Bank and southern Lebanon.

Here's a chart showing who funds basic research in the US. It's easy to tell that private funding cannot make up for significant cuts to government funding.
A 3D-styled pie chart illustrating the distribution of Research and Development (R&D) resources based on the NSF NCSES National Patterns of R&D Resources: 2022-23 Update.

The chart is divided into six segments, listed here in descending order of their financial contribution:

Federal Govt: The largest segment, shown in dark blue, accounts for 51% of the total, valued at $39.5 B.

Higher Ed. – Institutional: A light coral segment accounting for 23%, valued at $18.2 B.

Non-profit at Research Institutes: A dark red segment accounting for 8%, valued at $6.1 B.

Higher Ed. – Direct Philanthropy: A bright red segment accounting for 7%, valued at $5.8 B.

Business: A grey segment accounting for 7%, valued at $5.2 B.

Non-Federal Govt: The smallest segment, shown in light blue, accounting for 4%, valued at $3.2 B.

This is straight from the authoritarian playbook. Cut services that strengthen democracy then promote one’s “largesse.” The “gift” from the boss implies only he can solve the problem (that he purposefully created in the first place).

It's so easy to get numb to this, but let me point out the obvious and state that the language ICE uses is purposefully dehumanizing. People are not aliens, and people are not illegal. They might do illegal things, but they are not illegal themselves. 1/2

The big difference is that others also either malevolent or hoping to preempt Trump’s revenge. Mamdani is focused instead on getting Trump to act helpfully in a way that actually benefits people.

Adam Parker @aparkerwriter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I find it quite a skillful use of rhetoric, all the more impressive because he’s getting something he wants.
140
Adam Parker @aparkerwriter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
note the actual words Mamdani chooses when referring to Trump. He avoids praising him and sticks to facts. It’s so subtle, Trump surely doesn’t notice, thinking that Mamdani is indeed complimenting him, but really the mayor is cajoling, pretending to flatter while always stopping short of doing so.
120
Adam Parker @aparkerwriter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Of course, but doing so would mean giving up on all hope of federal assistance to build affordable housing, or whatever, making those projects pretty much dead in the water. Look, we’ve all had shitty (even illegitimate) superiors we’ve had to manage, so we dance the dance. Besides, and this is key,

Adam Parker @aparkerwriter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I think Mamdani is being shrewd, and I don’t disapprove.
110
Adam Parker @aparkerwriter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I kinda disagree here. Mamdani has been pretty clear both about what he thinks of Trump and his policies AND what his (Mamdani’s) purposes are: to help New Yorkers. The mayor clearly is USING the president to get something he wants for NYC. No point denying the Orangeman wields power and influence.

Franco in Spain imposed strict censorship of the press, often resulting in self-censorship. So did Argentina during the Dirty War. Putin has systematically dismantled the independent press and place much of it under state control. Etc. etc.
