Today, I, along with @daniellaspata.bsky.social and an overwhelming number of our colleagues, introduced the expansion of the Smart Streets pilot! When this passes, the map with be citywide, and it will be an ongoing program, not a pilot! We will also partner with the Mayor’s office to budget it out

Chicago's lakefront trail is incredible - but the official route to get downtown? An absolutely terrifying trip down lower Randolph! People biking deserve better access between Chicago's downtown and lakefront, and you can help make it happen.

I joined leaders across Cook County to support Marimar Martinez & other survivors as they filed police reports seeking accountability for abuses by federal immigration agents. If the federal government won’t investigate, local & state authorities must. No federal uniform puts anyone above the law.

Every year, every ward receives $1.5 million for infrastructure improvements like new sidewalks, streets, alleys, lighting, bike and pedestrian safety, and more. Here in the 35th Ward, residents decide how to spend our money through Participatory Budgeting. Share your ideas: www.ward35.org/pb2027

❌ Today, for a second quarter in a row, City Council has ghosted CTA at the quarterly hearings THEY mandated by law. This is profoundly unacceptable, particularly as we are rapidly racing toward a critical deadline for NITA board appointments that will have to be approved by Council.

Logan Square kicks off Pride Month with reminder: LGBTQ+ communities exist everywhere
Logan Square neighbors and LGBTQ+ people from across the city raised a Progress Pride Flag over the Northwest Side neighborhood on June 1 in a jovial Pride Month kickoff that included drag, rainbow cupcakes and dance music. The tradition—now in its third year—served as a reminder that queer communities exist in every Chicago neighborhood and not just famous enclaves like Lakeview and Andersonville.

President of MIT not mincing words today in @statnews.com www.statnews.com/2026/05/27/s...
So let me say it as clearly as I can: Without basic scientific research, supported by the kind of farsighted public investment that allows large-scale, undirected, curiosity-driven inquiry, the scientific pipeline will run dry.
In daily life, people may not feel the effects right away, or even in 10 years. But we will feel it. And when someone we love needs therapies that could have emerged but didn't or when other countries now
investing in science can launch new science-based industries or run their societies on vast resources of fusion energy or reap the benefits of quantum computing power or advanced medical breakthroughs, America will wish it sustained its leadership in scientific research here and now.
Sally Kornbluth is the president of MIT.
