I’m really pleased that, after years of persistent effort, Josie Appleton, director of the Campaign for Freedom in Everyday Life, has finally got serious mainstream media coverage. She fights valiantly against what seem like minor injustices.

Fixed that story about Sir Jim Ratcliffe on the BBC.
Picture of man smiling with tea-mug. Headline reads: "Non-Billionaire who actually lives in the UK and pays its taxes says he has lost confidence in the super-rich", with sub-header: 'One of Britain's taxpayers says he has lost confidence in billionaires, describing them as "on the take"".

The first watershed moment for Burnham's premiership: The country wants an end to self-serving government in cahoots with corporate interests. But Labour, shaped by Mandelson, sees its members (and voters) as a problem, regards power as its turn. Burnham has to choose 🧵

Jason Arday's utterly sad death holds a stark mirror up to the dehumanising political-media-societal culture we are in – one we must all be honest about being complicit in – which forgets there is a human being at the centre of a story, a case study, an issue, a scandal. It is dehumanising.

This thread is both profoundly right and politically wrong. The Ch88 agenda was analogue and foresaw the need to change a political system that was reactionary, Thatcherite but worked. John Smith understood this www.opendemocracy.net/en/john-smit... 1/4
